You're hard on yourself. Criticizing. Judging. Punishing. And you think this is necessary. Like you're worthless if you're not perfect. Like you need harsh self-criticism to improve. Like self-compassion is weakness. Like being gentle with yourself means you're failing.

This is external locus in self-treatment. Your worth depends on being perfect. Harsh = productive. Gentle = weak. You're measuring yourself against impossible standards. You're at war with yourself.

But here's the truth: Self-compassion is strength. Gentleness heals. Harsh criticism doesn't work. Your worth isn't your perfection. This is internal locus in self-treatment. This is Light Path in self-relationship - you're attracted to joy of treating yourself with love, not repelled by fear of being weak. You celebrate self-kindness, not punish imperfection. You embody compassionate strength.

The External Locus Self-Treatment Pattern

Worth Tied to Perfection: You're worthy if perfect. Imperfect = worthless. Your value depends on flawlessness. This is external locus creating suffering.

Harsh Self-Criticism: You criticize yourself harshly. This will make you better. You need this. This is external locus creating violence against self.

Self-Compassion as Weakness: Being gentle with yourself is weak. Lazy. You'll fail if you're kind. This is external locus creating cruelty.

Comparison to Perfect Others: Others are perfect. You're not. You're failing. This is external locus creating inadequacy.

The Internal Locus Alternative

Worth Independent of Perfection: You're valuable whether perfect or not. Your worth isn't your flawlessness. This is internal locus foundation.

Gentle Self-Talk: You speak to yourself kindly. Like you'd speak to loved one. This is internal locus in compassion.

Self-Compassion as Strength: Being gentle with yourself is strength. It heals. It helps you grow. This is internal locus in truth.

Joy Holds Imperfection: You can be imperfect AND treat yourself with love. Joy holds imperfection. You don't need perfection to deserve kindness. You're gentle with all of you. Light as container - your capacity for self-love isn't destroyed by mistakes.

Building Internal Locus in Self-Compassion

1. Separate Worth from Perfection: Practice: "My worth isn't my perfection. I'm valuable as I am. I deserve kindness."
