We have explored seven Hermetic principles and their Daoist equivalents, plus Wu Wei as their synthesis. But what do all these principles point to? What is the ultimate reality they describe? Throughout this series, we've used Φ (Phi, the golden ratio) as a symbol. Now we reveal its true meaning: Φ is not just a number. Φ is the universal constant—the pattern of patterns, the law of laws, the structure of existence itself.

What is Φ (Phi)?

The Mathematical Definition

Φ = 1.618033988749... (irrational, infinite decimal)

The golden ratio is defined by the equation:

Φ = (1 + √5) / 2

Or by the property:

Φ / 1 = 1 / (Φ - 1)

This means: The ratio of the whole to the larger part equals the ratio of the larger part to the smaller part.
