The Number 7: Chakras, Planets, Days & Mystical Completion

BY NICOLE LAU

Seven is the number of mystical completion, cosmic order, and spiritual perfection. It appears everywhere: seven days of the week, seven classical planets, seven chakras, seven colors of the rainbow, seven musical notes, seven deadly sins, seven virtues.

Why seven? Because it represents the union of the divine (3) and the earthly (4): 3 + 4 = 7. It's the bridge between heaven and earth, spirit and matter, the sacred and the mundane.

Seven is the number of the seeker, the mystic, the one who looks beyond the surface to find hidden truth.

Why 7 Is Sacred

The number 7 represents:

  • Completion of a cycle: The seven-day week, the seven-year cycle
  • Spiritual perfection: The union of trinity (3) and the material world (4)
  • Inner wisdom: Introspection, analysis, seeking truth
  • Mystery and magic: The number of the occult and hidden knowledge
  • Rest and reflection: The seventh day as Sabbath, a pause in creation

In numerology, 7 is the number of the philosopher, the analyst, the spiritual seeker who questions everything.

The Seven Classical Planets

In ancient astrology and magic, there are seven classical planets (the celestial bodies visible to the naked eye):

  1. Sun (☉): Vitality, success, the Higher Self
  2. Moon (☽): Intuition, emotions, the subconscious
  3. Mercury (☿): Communication, intellect, travel
  4. Venus (♀): Love, beauty, harmony
  5. Mars (♂): Courage, action, conflict
  6. Jupiter (♃): Expansion, abundance, wisdom
  7. Saturn (♄): Discipline, structure, karma

These seven planets govern the seven days of the week and form the foundation of planetary magic, alchemy, and Hermetic philosophy.

The Seven Days of the Week

Each day is ruled by one of the seven classical planets:

  • Sunday: Sun (Sol) — Success, vitality, leadership
  • Monday: Moon (Luna) — Intuition, dreams, emotions
  • Tuesday: Mars — Courage, protection, action
  • Wednesday: Mercury — Communication, learning, business
  • Thursday: Jupiter — Prosperity, expansion, luck
  • Friday: Venus — Love, beauty, pleasure
  • Saturday: Saturn — Discipline, banishing, endings

This seven-day cycle has governed human timekeeping for millennia, rooted in celestial observation and sacred cosmology.

The Seven Chakras

In Hindu and yogic traditions, the seven chakras are energy centers aligned along the spine:

1. Root Chakra (Muladhara) — Red

Location: Base of spine
Element: Earth
Function: Survival, grounding, security
Planet: Saturn

2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) — Orange

Location: Lower abdomen
Element: Water
Function: Creativity, sexuality, pleasure
Planet: Jupiter

3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) — Yellow

Location: Upper abdomen
Element: Fire
Function: Willpower, confidence, personal power
Planet: Mars

4. Heart Chakra (Anahata) — Green

Location: Center of chest
Element: Air
Function: Love, compassion, connection
Planet: Venus

5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) — Blue

Location: Throat
Element: Ether/Sound
Function: Communication, truth, expression
Planet: Mercury

6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) — Indigo

Location: Between eyebrows
Element: Light
Function: Intuition, vision, psychic ability
Planet: Moon

7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) — Violet/White

Location: Top of head
Element: Thought/Consciousness
Function: Spiritual connection, enlightenment, unity
Planet: Sun

The seven chakras map the journey from earthly survival (root) to divine consciousness (crown).

The Heptagram: Seven-Pointed Star

The heptagram (seven-pointed star) is a powerful symbol in occultism:

  • Elven Star (Faery Star): Used in Wicca and Faery traditions, representing the seven directions (N, S, E, W, above, below, within)
  • Seven classical planets: Each point represents one planet
  • Seven days of the week
  • Seven chakras
  • Mystical protection: Used in ceremonial magic for invoking angelic forces

The heptagram is harder to draw than the pentagram (five-pointed star), symbolizing the difficulty of achieving spiritual perfection.

Seven-Year Cycles

Many traditions recognize seven-year cycles of transformation:

  • Ages 0-7: Physical development, learning to walk and talk
  • Ages 7-14: Emotional development, puberty begins
  • Ages 14-21: Mental development, coming of age
  • Ages 21-28: Spiritual awakening, finding purpose
  • Ages 28-35: Saturn return, major life restructuring

Every seven years, we shed old patterns and step into a new phase of growth.

Working with the Energy of 7

In Ritual

  • Light seven candles (one for each planet or chakra)
  • Perform a ritual for seven consecutive days
  • Use seven crystals in a grid (one for each chakra)
  • Chant a mantra seven times
  • Create a seven-pointed star for protection or invocation

In Meditation

Chakra Meditation: Visualize each of the seven chakras activating in sequence, from root to crown, filling with their corresponding colors.

Planetary Meditation: Connect with each of the seven planets, feeling their unique energies and gifts.

In Manifestation

Use the seven-day cycle to manifest a goal:

  1. Sunday (Sun): Set your intention with confidence
  2. Monday (Moon): Visualize it emotionally
  3. Tuesday (Mars): Take bold action
  4. Wednesday (Mercury): Communicate your goal, make plans
  5. Thursday (Jupiter): Expand your vision, think big
  6. Friday (Venus): Cultivate gratitude and beauty
  7. Saturday (Saturn): Ground it, commit to discipline

In Divination

Use seven-card Tarot spreads:

  • Seven-day forecast (one card per day of the week)
  • Seven chakras spread (one card per chakra)
  • Seven planets spread (one card per planetary influence)

The Shadow Side of 7

Like all numbers, 7 has a shadow:

  • Isolation: The seeker who withdraws too much from the world
  • Overthinking: Analysis paralysis, unable to act
  • Skepticism: Questioning everything to the point of cynicism
  • Perfectionism: Never satisfied, always seeking more
  • Aloofness: Appearing cold or detached

Balance the introspective energy of 7 with connection, action, and trust.

Final Thoughts

When you work with the energy of seven—whether through the seven planets, the seven chakras, or the seven-day week—you're aligning with one of the universe's most sacred patterns.

Seven is where the earthly meets the divine. Seven is where the journey becomes complete.
