Seeking Guidance at the Sun's Turning
Inti Raymi was a time of prophecy and divination. Incan priests read omens to predict the coming year's fortune, agricultural prospects, and the empire's fate. Modern practitioners can access this divinatory energy through traditional Andean techniques and sun-focused tarot spreads.
Traditional Incan Divination Methods
Coca Leaf Reading (K'intu)
Coca leaves were sacred to the Incas and used for divination. This practice continues in Andean communities today.
Basic Technique: Select three perfect coca leaves (or bay leaves as substitute). Hold them, blow your question into them. Toss onto cloth and read their pattern. Leaves pointing up: positive answer, growth. Leaves pointing down: negative answer, decline. Mixed: complex answer, need for patience. Overlapping: connection, relationship, unity.
This is a simplified introduction. True coca leaf reading requires years of study with traditional practitioners.
Llama Organ Reading
Historically, priests examined sacrificed llama organs for omens. Modern practitioners obviously don't perform animal sacrifice, but we can understand the principle: reading natural patterns for divine messages.
Modern alternatives: Cloud formations, water patterns, fire behavior, natural phenomena. The key is receptivity to messages in the natural world.
Dream Incubation
During the three-day fast before Inti Raymi, participants often received prophetic dreams. Practice: Fast or eat lightly for three days before June 24th. Set intention before sleep: "Inti, show me what I need to know." Keep dream journal by bed. Record dreams immediately upon waking. Inti Raymi dreams carry special significance.

Working with The Sun Card
The Sun card in tarot is especially potent during Inti Raymi. If it appears in your reading: Inti is directly blessing your situation. Success, vitality, and clarity are available. Your authentic self wants to shine. Joy and celebration are appropriate. Trust in renewal and positive outcomes.
Meditate on The Sun card on June 24th, asking Inti to reveal its message for you.
Preparing for Inti Raymi Divination
Cleanse divination tools with smoke (palo santo, copal, or sage). Create altar with gold cloth, corn, citrine, sun symbols. Face east (sunrise direction) or north (sun's path in Southern Hemisphere). Set intention: "Inti, Father Sun, at this turning point, show me what I need to know. Guide me with your wisdom."
Enhancing Divinatory Receptivity
Practice the three-day simplified fast (light eating, no alcohol). Spend time in sunlight, absorbing solar energy. Hold citrine or sunstone during divination. Burn copal or frankincense incense. Drink corn-based beverage (chicha or corn tea) before divination.
Interpreting Inti Raymi Divination
Look for themes of: Renewal and rebirth, strength from vulnerability, cycles and timing, ancestral wisdom, balance of masculine and feminine, agricultural/abundance metaphors, light returning from darkness.
Trust your first impression. The sun's energy is direct and clear, not subtle or hidden. If a message feels confusing, ask for clarification through additional cards or meditation.
After the Divination
Record reading in detail with date. Make offering to Inti and Pachamama (pour water or chicha on earth, leave corn or flowers). Take one action based on guidance received within three days. Return to reading at Autumn Equinox to see what manifested. Thank Inti for guidance.
Ethical Divination
Don't divine about others without permission. Use divination for guidance, not control. Don't become dependent on divination for every decision. Balance intuitive knowing with practical wisdom. Respect Andean traditionsβacknowledge you're adapting, not claiming authenticity.
Conclusion: Solar Wisdom
Inti Raymi divination teaches that guidance is available at turning points, that the sun's wisdom is accessible to those who ask with respect, and that even in our darkest moments, the light of clarity can shine through.
Approach divination with reverence, openness, and trust. Inti's messages are gifts meant to guide you toward your highest path.
