The odds against any particular person existing are astronomical. And yet here they are. Here you were. Here every person you love was, once—a new arrival, crossing the threshold into life.
Every culture has birth rituals because birth demands ritual. It's too sacred, too momentous, too miraculous to pass without ceremony.
