By Nicole, Founder of Mystic Ryst
If you could only have one crystal for abundance, wealth, and success, it should be citrine. This golden stone has been called the "Merchant's Stone" for centuries because it's believed to attract prosperity, increase sales, and bring financial success to businesses.
But citrine is more than just a money magnet. It's a stone of joy, confidence, personal power, and manifestation. It carries the energy of the sun—warm, bright, energizing, and life-giving. It doesn't just attract abundance; it helps you embody the abundant mindset that naturally draws wealth.
This is your complete guide to citrine—the stone of abundance.
What Is Citrine?
Citrine is a yellow to golden-orange variety of quartz, colored by trace amounts of iron. Its name comes from the French word "citron," meaning lemon.
Physical Properties:
- Color: Pale yellow to deep golden orange (sometimes brownish)
- Chemical composition: Silicon dioxide (SiO2) with iron
- Hardness: 7 on Mohs scale (durable)
- Crystal system: Trigonal
- Transparency: Transparent to translucent
- Luster: Vitreous (glassy)
Where it's found: Brazil, Madagascar, Russia, France, Spain
Natural vs. Heat-Treated Citrine
Important to know: Most citrine on the market is heat-treated amethyst or smoky quartz.
Natural citrine:
- Pale yellow to golden
- Rare and more expensive
- Lighter, more subtle color
- Formed naturally over millions of years
Heat-treated citrine:
- Deep orange to reddish-brown
- More common and affordable
- Darker, more intense color
- Created by heating amethyst
Does it matter energetically? Both work! Heat-treated citrine still carries citrine's energy. Natural is preferred by purists, but heat-treated is perfectly effective and more accessible.
