Dragon's Blood and Mars: The Resin of Fierce Power
Dragon's blood's planetary and elemental correspondences are among the most straightforward and unambiguous in the magical tradition. Its Mars rulership and Fire element together create a magical profile of extraordinary power, directness, and fierce effectiveness. Dragon's blood is the most purely Martian magical substance available — the resin that embodies the warrior planet's energy in its most concentrated and potent form.
Primary Planetary Correspondence: Mars
Dragon's blood's primary planetary ruler is Mars, the planet of war, protection, courage, and the fierce will to act. Every aspect of dragon's blood's magical character reflects this Martian nature:
- Fierce protection — Mars is the warrior planet; dragon's blood's aggressive, active protection is quintessentially Martian
- Banishing and exorcism — Mars drives out enemies; dragon's blood drives out negative energies and entities with the same force
- Courage and strength — Mars governs the courage to act decisively; dragon's blood imparts this quality in its most concentrated form
- Amplification of will — Mars governs the focused will; dragon's blood amplifies the practitioner's will and projects it with extraordinary force
- Passionate desire — Mars governs physical desire and passionate attraction; dragon's blood's love magic works through this Martian fire
- Victory over obstacles — Mars governs the overcoming of opposition; dragon's blood helps break through magical and practical obstacles
Martian timing for dragon's blood magic:
- Tuesday (Mars's day) — The optimal day for all dragon's blood workings
- Mars's planetary hours — The hour of Mars on any day
- Waxing Moon — For attraction, love, and manifestation
- Waning Moon — For banishing, protection, and driving out negativity
- Aries season (March–April) — Mars's home sign; dragon's blood at peak Martian power
Secondary Planetary Correspondence: The Sun
Dragon's blood carries a significant secondary correspondence with the Sun, reflecting its amplifying properties (which parallel frankincense's solar amplification) and its use in workings for success, achievement, and the full expression of personal power. The combination of Mars (fierce action) and Sun (radiant success) makes dragon's blood particularly effective for workings that require both the courage to act and the power to succeed.
Elemental Correspondence: Fire
Dragon's blood's elemental correspondence is unambiguously Fire — the most purely fiery magical substance in the Western tradition. It embodies Fire's qualities in their most concentrated and intense expression:
- Purification through burning — Fire destroys what is impure; dragon's blood's banishing properties work through this fiery destruction of negativity
- Transformation — Fire transforms; dragon's blood transforms situations, spaces, and workings with extraordinary speed and force
- Courage and will — Fire drives bold action; dragon's blood is the most powerful courage-imparting substance in the tradition
- Amplification — Fire intensifies; dragon's blood intensifies everything it touches
- Passion and desire — Fire is the element of passion; dragon's blood's love magic works through this fiery desire
Directional correspondence: South — the direction of Fire and the Sun at its peak.
