Extraction Healing: Removing Energetic Intrusions

BY NICOLE LAU

Sometimes the problem isn't what's missingβ€”it's what doesn't belong.

While soul retrieval addresses what's been lost, extraction healing addresses what's been gained: energetic intrusions, spiritual blockages, negative entities, or foreign energies that have lodged themselves in your energy field or physical body.

In shamanic understanding, these intrusions can cause illness, pain, depression, and a host of other problems. They're not "you"β€”they're something that's invaded your space. And they can be removed.

This is extraction healing: the shamanic practice of spiritual surgery, removing what doesn't belong so you can be clear, clean, and whole.

What Are Energetic Intrusions?

The Shamanic Perspective

Intrusions are foreign energies or entities that have entered your energy field or body. They can be:

  • Misplaced energy: Someone else's anger, fear, or pain that you absorbed
  • Negative thought forms: Concentrated negativity (curses, ill wishes, your own negative thoughts)
  • Spiritual entities: Beings that have attached themselves to you
  • Energetic cords: Attachments to people, places, or situations
  • Psychic attacks: Intentional or unintentional harmful energy sent your way
  • Environmental energies: Negative energy from places (battlefields, hospitals, etc.)
  • Ancestral patterns: Inherited energetic burdens

Intrusions are NOT:

  • Demons (in most cases)
  • Punishment from God/Universe
  • Permanent or all-powerful
  • A sign you're bad or cursed

They're simply energies in the wrong place, like a splinter in your fingerβ€”painful, but removable.

How Intrusions Enter

Intrusions can enter when:

  • Your boundaries are weak: Exhaustion, illness, trauma, soul loss
  • You're in toxic environments: Hospitals, bars, places of violence or suffering
  • You absorb others' energy: Empaths, healers, caregivers are especially vulnerable
  • You're attacked: Psychically, emotionally, or physically
  • You invite them in: Through fear, negative thinking, or spiritual practices without protection
  • You inherit them: Ancestral patterns or family curses
  • During altered states: Drugs, alcohol, trance (without protection)

Signs of Energetic Intrusions

You may have intrusions if you experience:

Physical Symptoms

  • Localized pain with no medical cause
  • Chronic illness that doesn't respond to treatment
  • Sudden onset of symptoms after being in certain places or with certain people
  • Feeling of heaviness or density in specific body parts
  • Unexplained fatigue or energy drain

Emotional/Mental Symptoms

  • Sudden mood changes that don't feel like "you"
  • Intrusive thoughts that seem foreign
  • Feeling like you're carrying someone else's emotions
  • Depression or anxiety that appeared suddenly
  • Obsessive thoughts about a person or situation
  • Feeling "not yourself" or "taken over"

Energetic Symptoms

  • Feeling something attached to you
  • Sensing a presence that's not benevolent
  • Cold spots or heaviness in your energy field
  • Difficulty meditating or journeying (something blocking you)
  • Nightmares or sleep disturbances
  • Feeling drained after being with certain people

Behavioral Symptoms

  • Addictions or compulsions that feel like they're "not you"
  • Self-sabotage
  • Inability to move forward in specific areas of life
  • Repeating toxic patterns

Types of Intrusions

1. Misplaced Energy

What it is: Someone else's emotional or psychic energy that you've absorbed

Example: You spend time with an angry person and suddenly feel rage that isn't yours. You visit a hospital and feel sick afterward.

Appearance in journey: Often looks like dark clouds, sludge, or sticky substance

2. Thought Forms

What it is: Concentrated negative thoughts (yours or others') that have taken on energetic form

Example: Someone wishes you harm repeatedly, creating a thought form. Or your own negative self-talk creates an intrusion.

Appearance in journey: Dark shapes, geometric forms, symbols, or creatures

3. Entities or Attachments

What it is: Spiritual beings that have attached to your energy field

Types:

  • Lost souls (ghosts) seeking help or energy
  • Lower-vibration entities feeding on fear or negativity
  • Parasitic energies

Appearance in journey: Beings, shadows, or presences (often appear frightening but are usually just confused or hungry)

4. Energetic Cords

What it is: Energetic connections to people, places, or situations that drain you

Example: Cords to ex-partners, toxic family members, old jobs, past traumas

Appearance in journey: Ropes, tubes, chains, or threads connecting you to someone/something

5. Curses or Hexes

What it is: Intentional harmful magic or concentrated ill will

Note: Rare, and often less powerful than people think. Most "curses" are actually thought forms or your own fear.

Appearance in journey: Symbols, objects, or concentrated dark energy

6. Ancestral Intrusions

What it is: Energetic patterns or burdens inherited from your lineage

Example: Family "curses," inherited trauma, ancestral shame or guilt

Appearance in journey: Old objects, ancestral figures, or patterns that repeat through generations

The Extraction Process

Step 1: Diagnosis

The shaman journeys or scans the person's energy field to:

  • Determine if intrusions are present
  • Locate them (which part of the body or energy field)
  • Identify what they are
  • Understand how they entered
  • Ask if they're ready to be removed

Step 2: Preparation

  • Create sacred space (smudge, call in allies)
  • Call in helping spirits (power animals, guides, extraction spirits)
  • Prepare tools: Crystal, feather, rattle, bowl of water or salt
  • Set intention for the person's highest good

Step 3: Extraction

The shaman:

  1. Enters trance (light trance, not full journey)
  2. Scans the body with hands or tools
  3. Locates the intrusion (often feels dense, cold, or "wrong")
  4. Asks helping spirits for assistance
  5. Extracts the intrusion using one of several methods:
    • Sucking: Drawing it out through the mouth (spitting into water/salt)
    • Pulling: Using hands or tools to pull it out
    • Cutting: Severing cords with energetic knife or crystal
    • Dissolving: Using light or fire to transmute it
  6. Disposes of the intrusion (into water, salt, earth, or fireβ€”never just released into the air)
  7. Fills the space with healing light or energy
  8. Seals the area to prevent re-entry

Step 4: Disposal

Intrusions must be properly disposed of:

  • Water: Spit or place into bowl of water, then pour into earth or toilet
  • Salt: Place into salt, which neutralizes it
  • Fire: Burn (for thought forms or cords)
  • Earth: Bury (earth transmutes it)
  • Transmutation: Send to helping spirits to transform

Never: Just release into the air (it can attach to someone else)

Step 5: Healing and Sealing

  • Fill the space where the intrusion was with healing energy
  • Seal the person's energy field
  • Strengthen boundaries
  • May do soul retrieval if intrusion entered through soul loss
  • Provide aftercare instructions

Self-Extraction Techniques

While deep extractions should be done by trained practitioners, you can do preliminary clearing:

1. Energetic Shower

  1. Stand or sit comfortably
  2. Visualize a waterfall of white or golden light above you
  3. Let it pour through your crown, washing through your entire body and energy field
  4. See it carrying away any dark, heavy, or foreign energy
  5. Watch it drain into the earth (which transmutes it)
  6. Continue until you feel clear

2. Cord Cutting

  1. Identify who or what you're corded to
  2. Visualize the cord (where is it attached to you?)
  3. Call in Archangel Michael or your power animal
  4. Visualize cutting the cord with a sword of light
  5. See both ends sealing with light
  6. Say: "I release you. I take back my energy. I send you back yours."
  7. Fill the space with your own energy

3. Salt Bath

  • Add 1-2 cups of sea salt or Epsom salt to bath
  • Soak for 20-30 minutes
  • Visualize salt drawing out intrusions
  • Drain the tub, seeing intrusions go down the drain
  • Rinse with fresh water

4. Smoke Cleansing

  • Use sage, palo santo, or other cleansing herbs
  • Smudge your entire body and energy field
  • Pay special attention to areas that feel heavy
  • Set intention: "I release all that doesn't serve me"

5. Crystal Extraction

  • Use black tourmaline, obsidian, or clear quartz
  • Scan your body with the crystal
  • When you feel density or heaviness, hold the crystal there
  • Visualize it absorbing the intrusion
  • Cleanse the crystal immediately after (salt water, smoke, earth)

Prevention: Energetic Hygiene

Daily Practices

  • Ground daily: Connect to earth, visualize roots
  • Shield: Visualize protective bubble or cloak of light
  • Clear regularly: Energetic shower, smudging, salt baths
  • Set boundaries: Say no, limit exposure to toxic people/places
  • Call in protection: Power animals, guides, angels

After Exposure to Negative Energy

  • Immediately clear yourself (shower, smudge, salt)
  • Don't bring it home (clear before entering your space)
  • Check in with your body (where do you feel heavy?)
  • Ask your power animal to remove anything that attached

Strengthening Your Field

  • Soul retrieval: Wholeness = stronger boundaries
  • Power animal connection: They protect you
  • Healthy lifestyle: Sleep, nutrition, exercise strengthen your field
  • Spiritual practice: Meditation, prayer, ritual
  • Joy and love: High vibration repels low-vibration intrusions

After Extraction: Integration

After extraction (professional or self), you may experience:

  • Immediate relief: Lightness, clarity, pain reduction
  • Detox symptoms: Fatigue, emotional release, physical symptoms (temporary)
  • Increased energy: As your own energy returns
  • Clarity: Thoughts and emotions feel like "yours" again
  • Need for rest: Your system is recalibrating

Support integration:

  • Rest and hydrate
  • Avoid re-exposure to the source
  • Strengthen your boundaries
  • Fill the space with positive energy (joy, creativity, love)
  • Consider soul retrieval if needed

When to Seek a Practitioner

Seek professional extraction if:

  • Self-clearing doesn't work
  • The intrusion feels powerful or entrenched
  • You're dealing with entities
  • You have chronic illness with no medical cause
  • You feel overwhelmed or scared

Final Thoughts

Extraction healing is not about fear or paranoia. It's about energetic hygieneβ€”keeping your field clear, just as you keep your body clean.

You wouldn't walk through mud and not wash your feet. You wouldn't let a splinter stay in your finger. Why would you let foreign energies stay in your field?

Extraction is maintenance. It's self-care. It's reclaiming your space as your own.

You have the right to be clear. You have the right to be whole. You have the right to say: "This is my body, my energy, my space. What doesn't belong here must leave."

And it will.

More Ways to Deepen Your Practice

If you've ever felt like your practice isn't going deep enough β€”
like your mind stays busy, your body never fully settles, or the space around you feels distracting β€”
it's often not about discipline.

It's about environment.

The right environment doesn't just support your practice β€” it becomes part of it.
When space, scent, sound, and intention align, the shift in awareness happens more naturally and more deeply.

Imagine this:
sacred symbols on the walls, soft fabric against your skin, a steady place to sit.
A match is struck. Smoke rises β€” bergamot, frankincense β€” something ancient and grounding.
Sound moves quietly in the background, and time begins to slow.

You don't force the state.
You arrive in it.

This is what a ritual feels like when every element is aligned.

If you want to make your practice feel like this, start simple:

You don't need everything.
Just one element can change the entire experience.

The tools that help create this space β€” and how to use them in your own practice:

Tapestries

Sacred symbols woven into fabric become silent guardians of the space β€” helping the mind cross the threshold from the ordinary into the sacred. Designed to anchor your ritual environment and hold energetic intention throughout your practice.

Yoga Mats

A dedicated surface signals to body and spirit alike: this is where the work begins. Everything else falls away. Built for comfort and stability, so your body can settle fully while your awareness expands.

Audio Meditations

Let sound do what the mind cannot do alone. In the stillness it creates, intuition finds its voice. Guided sessions crafted to deepen receptivity, clear mental noise, and prepare you for meaningful spiritual work.

Ritual Kits

When the tools are already gathered, the only thing left is intention. Light something. Begin. Thoughtfully assembled sets that bring together everything needed for a complete, intentional ceremony.

Personal Practice Journals

Every reading, every vision, every quiet knowing β€” written down before the ordinary world reclaims it. Structured to support reflection, pattern recognition, and the long-term deepening of your practice.

Apparel

What you wear into a ritual becomes part of it. Soft, intentional, yours. Designed for ease of movement and energetic comfort, from morning meditation to evening ceremony.

Aromatherapy Candles

A flame changes a room. Let the scent that rises with it mark the beginning of something set apart from the rest of the day. Formulated with sacred botanicals to cleanse energy, anchor intention, and deepen meditative states.

Books

Some knowledge can only be absorbed slowly, over many readings. Let the right book become a companion to your practice. Curated titles spanning mysticism, ritual, and esoteric wisdom β€” to take your understanding further.
