Within the Fire element, there are four distinct altar designs in Elemental Altars: 16 Designs, each addressing a specific dimension of Fire's energy. The Transformation Altar
The Transformation altar is one of the most powerful of the sixteen designs — an altar specifically designed for the moments in life when something needs to end so that something new can begin. Fire is the element of transformation because it is the force that changes the nature of what it touches: wood becomes ash, ore becomes metal, raw ingredients become cooked food. The Transformation altar works with this quality of Fire to support the practitioner through the endings and transitions that are the necessary preconditions of genuine new beginnings.
The Transformation altar works with black and deep red alongside the standard Fire colors — black for the ending and the fertile darkness from which new things emerge, deep red for the vital force that persists through transformation. Its crystals include obsidian for the cutting away of what no longer serves, labradorite for the magic of the between-worlds state that transformation creates, and moldavite for the intensity of genuine transformation. Its botanicals include mugwort for the liminal state, cedar for the clearing of old patterns, and phoenix-associated plants like rosemary for the memory of what was and the clarity of what is becoming.
The Creative Fire Altar
The Creative Fire altar is designed for the practitioner who wants to activate and sustain their creative energy — the artist, the writer, the entrepreneur, the maker of any kind who needs access to the inspired, generative dimension of Fire's energy. It works with the brightest and most vibrant of Fire's colors — vivid orange, bright gold, and the yellow of the midday sun — and with crystals and botanicals that specifically activate creative inspiration and the flow state in which creative work becomes effortless.
Creative Fire crystals include carnelian for the creative activation of the sacral chakra, citrine for the solar energy of creative confidence, and tiger's eye for the focused, sustained attention that creative work requires. Creative Fire botanicals include orange peel for the bright, uplifting energy of creative inspiration, cinnamon for the warming activation of creative energy, and basil for the fresh, green vitality of new creative ideas.
