Fire Element Altar: Passion, Will, and the Sacred Flame
Share
Fire is the most immediately recognizable of the four elements — the element of transformation, passion, will, and the directed energy that moves toward a goal. It is the element of the sun, of the hearth, of the forge, and of the sacred flame that has been at the center of human ritual since the first fire was kindled. A Fire altar is the physical embodiment of this energy: a space that holds the frequency of Fire's gifts — passion, courage, creative power, and the will to act — and that gradually attunes the practitioner to these qualities through daily contact and intentional practice.
The Gifts of Fire
Fire's gifts are the gifts of the active, directed, transformative principle: passion — the burning desire that motivates action and gives life its intensity; will — the focused, directed energy that moves toward a goal and does not stop until it is achieved; courage — the willingness to act in the face of uncertainty and to burn through the obstacles that stand between the practitioner and their intention; and creative power — the generative force that brings new things into existence through the alchemy of inspiration and action.
Colors for the Fire Altar
The Fire altar works with red, orange, gold, and deep yellow — the colors of flame and the sun. Red for passion, desire, and the vital force at its most intense. Orange for the creative fire and the joy of full expression. Gold for the solar energy and the achievement of goals. Deep yellow for the warmth and brightness of the sacred flame.
Symbols and Objects
Fire altar symbols include candles — always, and in abundance, for Fire is the element of the sacred flame; a sun symbol for the solar energy that is Fire's highest expression; a wand or athame for the directed will; volcanic rock or lava stone for the earth's inner fire; and images or symbols of the phoenix for transformation and the capacity to rise from endings into new beginnings.
Crystals for Fire
Fire crystals include carnelian for passion and creative activation; citrine for the solar energy and the manifestation of will; garnet for the vital force and the courage to act; sunstone for the sun's creative power; and ruby for the fire of life at its most intense and most directed.
Plants and Botanicals
Fire botanicals include cinnamon for the warming, activating energy of Fire; dragon's blood resin for the amplification of Fire's power; frankincense for the sacred flame and the elevation of intention; ginger for the fiery, activating energy of the element; and bay laurel for the achievement of goals and the fulfillment of will.
