This is Part 32 of 37 in the Color Magic series. For the spiritual foundations of gold, see: Gold: The Complete Spiritual Guide.
Gold in the Magical Tradition
Gold magic is the magic of the sun at its zenith — of the full power of the solar principle, of the abundance that flows from genuine alignment with the source of all wealth, of the completion of the alchemical great work. It is the most expansive of the color magics — the magic of the open hand rather than the grasping fist, of the abundance that gives freely because it knows itself as inexhaustible.
In contemporary magical practice, gold is the color of:
- Divine abundance and prosperity — the highest form of wealth magic, aligned with genuine worth
- Solar power and vitality — the activation of the full life force
- Success and achievement — the gold of genuine accomplishment
- Confidence and self-worth — the claiming of genuine power
- Wisdom and illumination — the gold of genuine understanding
- The alchemical completion — the Rubedo, the final stage of genuine transformation
- Divine connection through the solar principle — the sun as the visible face of the divine
Gold Candle Magic
What Gold Candles Are For
Gold candles carry the energy of the sun at its highest — the full power of the solar principle, the warmth and generosity of genuine abundance. They are used for workings that require the highest level of solar energy: for abundance that is genuinely aligned with worth, for success that comes from genuine power, for the claiming of what is genuinely yours.
Use gold candles for:
- Abundance and prosperity workings — the highest form of wealth magic
- Solar power activation — claiming your full vitality and life force
- Success and achievement workings
- Self-worth and confidence rituals
- Wisdom and illumination workings
- The alchemical completion — the final stage of a long transformation
- Sunday workings — the Sun's day amplifies all gold intentions

Dressing a Gold Candle
Anoint gold candles with frankincense oil (the divine, the highest solar energy), cinnamon oil (abundance, solar fire, the spice of genuine wealth), or orange oil (the solar fruit, abundance and joy). Roll the dressed candle in ground cinnamon, dried chamomile, or crushed bay leaves. Carve your intention: ABUNDANCE, WORTHY, SOLAR, PROSPER, ACHIEVE, GOLD, COMPLETE.
Gold Herbs, Resins, and Botanicals
Cinnamon
The spice of solar fire and abundance — cinnamon is one of the most powerful herbs for prosperity magic. It activates the solar principle, draws abundance, and creates the warm, expansive energy that genuine wealth requires. Use it in gold candle dressings, in prosperity sachets, and in abundance rituals. Blowing cinnamon through your front door on the first of the month is a widely used prosperity practice.
Bay Laurel
The herb of victory and achievement — bay laurel was used to crown the victors in ancient Greece and Rome. Write your intentions on bay leaves and burn them in your gold candle's flame to send your intentions to the solar realm. Bay laurel is particularly effective for workings related to career success, recognition, and the achievement of long-held goals.
Chamomile
The golden flower of the sun — chamomile is used in gold magic for prosperity, for the gentle attraction of abundance, and for the cultivation of the patience and the warmth that genuine wealth requires. Wash your hands in chamomile tea before handling money as a prosperity practice.
Frankincense
The resin of the divine sun — frankincense in gold magic emphasizes its solar and divine qualities, connecting the practitioner to the highest source of genuine abundance. Burn it during all gold magic workings to elevate the energy to the highest solar frequency.
Sunflower
The flower that follows the sun — sunflower is used in gold magic for solar activation, for the cultivation of genuine confidence, and for the attraction of abundance. Place sunflowers on your altar during gold magic workings, or use sunflower seeds in prosperity sachets.
Calendula
The golden flower of abundance — calendula is used in gold magic for prosperity, for the attraction of genuine wealth, and for the cultivation of the generous, expansive energy that genuine abundance requires.
Gold Crystals for Magic
Citrine — The Merchant's Stone
Citrine is the most widely used crystal for abundance magic — the stone of the merchant, the entrepreneur, the person who builds genuine wealth from genuine value. It carries the energy of the sun's warmth and generosity, attracting abundance and promoting the abundance consciousness that allows it to be received. Place citrine in your cash register, your wallet, or the wealth corner of your home (the far left corner from the front door, in feng shui).
Pyrite — The Abundance Builder
Pyrite carries the energy of genuine wealth built through genuine work and genuine confidence. It is the stone of the person who creates abundance through their own power — through genuine skill, genuine effort, and genuine value. Use pyrite in workings for career success, business growth, and the building of genuine, sustainable wealth.
Tiger's Eye — The Solar Warrior
Tiger's eye combines the solar power of gold with the grounding of the earth, creating the kind of confident, grounded abundance that is genuinely sustainable. It is the stone of the person who acts from genuine confidence rather than from fear or desperation — who pursues abundance with the calm certainty of someone who knows their own worth.
Amber — The Ancient Sun
Amber carries the energy of the sun's light preserved across millions of years — the abundance that is ancient and enduring, the wealth that has been accumulated across lifetimes. Use amber in workings for long-term prosperity, for the inheritance of genuine wealth (material and spiritual), and for the connection to the ancestral abundance that is your birthright.
Complete Gold Magic Rituals
Ritual 1: Solar Abundance Activation
Best timing: Sunday noon, full moon, midsummer
You will need: Gold candle, citrine, pyrite, cinnamon, frankincense incense, bay leaves and pen
Method: Perform this ritual at noon on a Sunday — the peak of the sun's power. Set up your altar in a place where sunlight falls directly. Light the frankincense incense. Light the gold candle.
On bay leaves, write your abundance intentions — one intention per leaf. Be specific and be bold. Write in the present tense, as if the abundance is already present.
Hold the citrine in your right hand and the pyrite in your left. Feel the solar energy of both stones. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Speak: I am aligned with the source of all abundance. I am worthy of genuine prosperity. I claim my full worth. I receive what is genuinely mine. The gold is already present. I open to receive it.
Burn the bay leaves in the candle's flame one by one, releasing each intention to the solar realm. Let the candle burn completely.
Ritual 2: The Worth Claiming Ritual
Best timing: Sunday, full moon
You will need: Gold candle, tiger's eye, mirror, gold pen and paper
Method: This ritual addresses the root of abundance blocks: the belief that you are not worthy of genuine wealth. Light the gold candle. Sit before a mirror. Look into your own eyes.
Speak: I am worthy of abundance. I am worthy of genuine prosperity. I am worthy of being fully compensated for my genuine value. I am worthy of receiving as generously as I give. I claim my full worth. I am the gold.
Notice the resistance. Notice the places where the inner voice says “no you're not.” These are the abundance blocks. Write them down on the gold paper. Then, one by one, speak to each block: I see you. I understand where you came from. And I am choosing a different story now. I am worthy. I am the gold.
Ritual 3: Prosperity Grid
Best timing: Sunday, waxing moon
You will need: Citrine (center stone), pyrite, tiger's eye, amber, gold candle, cinnamon
Method: Create a crystal grid with citrine at the center, surrounded by alternating pyrite and tiger's eye, with amber at the four cardinal points. Sprinkle cinnamon around the grid. Light the gold candle at the center.
Activate the grid by touching each stone with your finger and speaking: I activate this grid for genuine abundance. I align with the source of all wealth. I am open to receiving what is genuinely mine.
Leave the grid in place for a full lunar cycle. Reactivate it each Sunday by lighting the gold candle and speaking the activation words.
