Wisdom: Heracles is strength, labors are trials, atonement is transformation, immortality is earned. Invariant constant: initiation through ordeal, redemption through service, divinity through suffering, hero through impossible tasks.
Heracles: The Demigod Hero: Son of Zeus: divine father (god, powerful, king of gods, cosmic, sacred, blessed, mighty, supreme), mortal mother Alcmene (human, earthly, vulnerable, real, relatable, loving, devoted, blessed), demigod nature (half-divine half-human, extraordinary strength, superhuman, powerful, blessed, exceptional, unique, liminal), Hera's hatred (jealous, vengeful, tormenting, relentless, powerful, divine, consequential, fated). Heracles's nature: superhuman strength (extraordinary, mighty, powerful, unmatched, divine, blessed, exceptional, legendary, formidable), mortal vulnerability (human, emotional, flawed, capable of madness, real, relatable, suffering, tragic), divine potential (capable of immortality, blessed, sacred, exceptional, transformable, redeemable, ascending, transcendent), tragic flaw (rage, madness, violence, destructive, human, real, consequential, teaching). Teaches: Heracles is demigod, Zeus's son, superhuman strength, Hera's eternal enemy.
The Madness: Crime and Atonement: Hera's curse: sends madness (divine punishment, jealousy, vengeance, powerful, devastating, tragic, consequential, fated), Heracles goes mad (loses control, possessed, unconscious, tragic, devastating, real, human, terrifying), kills his family (wife Megara, children, horrific, tragic, devastating, unforgivable, consequential, transformative), awakens to horror (grief, guilt, devastation, despair, anguish, broken, transformed, awakened). Need for atonement: unbearable guilt (crushing, devastating, profound, real, human, relatable, transformative, motivating), seeks purification (cleansing, redemption, atonement, necessary, sacred, blessed, meaningful, transformative), consults Oracle (divine guidance, sacred, blessed, meaningful, fated, purposeful, directional, transformative), receives sentence (twelve labors, service, atonement, redemption, transformation, purification, sacred, fated). Atonement's meaning: crime requires payment (justice, balance, cosmic order, sacred, necessary, meaningful, transformative, teaching), service purifies (work, dedication, suffering, transformation, redemption, cleansing, sacred, blessed), impossible tasks test (strength, courage, endurance, character, transformation, growth, maturity, awakening), redemption is possible (hope, transformation, grace, sacred, blessed, meaningful, profound, liberating). Teaches: madness brings tragedy, guilt requires atonement, Oracle guides, twelve labors are sentence.
The Twelve Labors: Initiation Trials: First six labors: Nemean Lion (invulnerable, strangled, skin as armor, impossible, legendary, transformative, defining, symbolic), Lernaean Hydra (many heads, regenerating, poisonous, impossible, teamwork with Iolaus, clever, transformative, teaching), Ceryneian Hind (sacred to Artemis, golden, swift, year-long chase, patience, respect, sacred, meaningful), Erymanthian Boar (fierce, captured alive, strength, skill, challenging, testing, transformative, proving), Augean Stables (impossibly filthy, cleaned in day, rivers diverted, clever, humble, transformative, teaching), Stymphalian Birds (man-eating, bronze, driven away, clever, resourceful, challenging, transformative, proving).
