Hermetic Principles Changed My Reality

BY NICOLE LAU

I used to think reality was fixed. Things happened to me, and I had to react. I was a victim of circumstances, luck, other people's choices.

Then I learned the Seven Hermetic Principles. And I realized: I'm not a victim of reality. I'm a co-creator of it.

This is how ancient wisdom changed everything.

The Wake-Up Call

I was stuck. Same problems, different day. Bad relationships, money struggles, health issues, feeling powerless.

I'd tried everything: therapy, self-help books, vision boards, affirmations. Some helped temporarily, but nothing fundamentally shifted.

Then a mentor handed me The Kybalionβ€”a book on Hermetic philosophy. She said: "This will either change your life or mean nothing to you. There's no in-between."

It changed my life.

The Seven Hermetic Principles

Hermetic philosophy teaches seven universal laws that govern reality. Not religious dogmaβ€”observable principles that work whether you believe in them or not.

Here's how each one transformed my life:

1. The Principle of Mentalism: "The All is Mind"

The teaching: The universe is mental. Reality is created by consciousness.

What it meant for me: My thoughts aren't just thoughtsβ€”they're creative forces. If I change my mind, I change my reality.

How I applied it: I started treating my mind like a garden. What am I planting? What am I watering? What needs to be weeded out?

Result: Within weeks, I noticed: when I changed my internal narrative, external circumstances shifted to match.

2. The Principle of Correspondence: "As Above, So Below"

The teaching: Patterns repeat across all levels of reality. What's true in the macrocosm is true in the microcosm.

What it meant for me: My external life mirrors my internal state. If I want to change my outer world, I have to change my inner world first.

How I applied it: Instead of trying to fix external problems directly, I asked: "What internal pattern is creating this?"

Result: I stopped attracting toxic relationships when I healed my internal relationship with myself.

3. The Principle of Vibration: "Nothing Rests; Everything Moves"

The teaching: Everything vibrates at a specific frequency. Change your vibration, change what you attract.

What it meant for me: I'm not stuck. I'm vibrating at a frequency that matches my current reality. I can shift that frequency.

How I applied it: I started paying attention to what raised or lowered my vibrationβ€”people, places, activities, thoughts.

Result: I curated my life for high vibration. Better opportunities, better people, better health naturally followed.

4. The Principle of Polarity: "Everything is Dual"

The teaching: Opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree. Hot and cold are the same thingβ€”just different points on a spectrum.

What it meant for me: I can transmute negative into positive by shifting degree, not fighting the opposite.

How I applied it: Instead of fighting fear, I recognized it as excitement at a lower vibration. I shifted the degree.

Result: Anxiety became anticipation. Anger became passion. Depression became deep rest before rebirth.

5. The Principle of Rhythm: "Everything Flows"

The teaching: Everything has cyclesβ€”rise and fall, expansion and contraction. The pendulum swings.

What it meant for me: Bad times aren't permanent. Good times aren't either. Everything is a phase.

How I applied it: I stopped panicking during low cycles. I stopped clinging during high cycles. I learned to ride the rhythm.

Result: I became unshakeable. Challenges didn't destroy me because I knew: this too shall pass.

6. The Principle of Cause and Effect: "Every Cause Has Its Effect"

The teaching: Nothing happens by chance. Everything is the effect of a cause. You can be a cause, or you can be an effect.

What it meant for me: I'm not a victim. I'm either creating causes or experiencing effects of past causes.

How I applied it: I started asking: "What am I causing right now?" instead of "Why is this happening to me?"

Result: I took radical responsibility. My life became my creation, not my sentence.

7. The Principle of Gender: "Gender is in Everything"

The teaching: Everything contains masculine (active, projective) and feminine (receptive, creative) energies. Creation requires both.

What it meant for me: I can't just do (masculine) or just be (feminine). I need both to create.

How I applied it: I balanced action with receptivity. I planted seeds (masculine), then allowed them to grow (feminine).

Result: I stopped forcing and started flowing. Things manifested with less effort and more grace.

How I Integrated the Principles

Daily practice:

  1. Morning: Review the seven principles, choose one to focus on
  2. Throughout the day: Apply that principle to situations as they arise
  3. Evening: Journal on how the principle showed up
  4. Weekly: Study one principle deeply using my Kybalion journal

Visual reminders:

  • Seven Hermetic Principles tapestry in my workspace
  • Hermetic Principles journal for tracking applications and results

Real-Life Results

Before Hermetic Principles:

  • Felt like a victim of circumstances
  • Reactive, not proactive
  • Stuck in repeating patterns
  • Powerless to change my reality

After 6 months of application:

  • Conscious co-creator of my life
  • Proactive, intentional, sovereign
  • Broke free from old patterns
  • Tangible shifts: better relationships, doubled income, improved health

The Most Important Lesson

The Hermetic Principles aren't just philosophy. They're operating instructions for reality.

You don't have to believe them. Just test them. Apply them. See what happens.

For me, they were the missing piece. I'd been trying to change my life from the outside in. Hermetics taught me to change from the inside out.

And when you change your inner reality, your outer reality has no choice but to follow.

How to Start

  1. Study the principles: Read The Kybalion or use a study journal
  2. Choose one principle: Don't try to apply all seven at once
  3. Test it: Apply it to real situations for one week
  4. Observe results: Track what changes
  5. Move to the next: Once one principle clicks, add another
  6. Integrate all seven: Eventually, they become your operating system

What I Learned

Reality isn't happening to you. It's happening through you.

You're not a passive observer. You're an active participant. A co-creator. A magician (in the Hermetic senseβ€”one who understands and applies universal laws).

The Hermetic Principles gave me the keys to the kingdom. Not a magical kingdomβ€”this kingdom. This reality. This life.

And once you understand the principles, you realize: you've always had the power. You just didn't know how to use it. For me, keeping the energy of these principles alive day to day has been deeply supported by practices like the Sacred Space Cleanse to clear what no longer serves, the 40 Manifestation Rituals to embody the creative cause-and-effect nature of reality, and the Jung and the Archetype guide for exploring the inner correspondences that mirror our outer world.

More Ways to Deepen Your Practice

If you've ever felt like your practice isn't going deep enough β€”
like your mind stays busy, your body never fully settles, or the space around you feels distracting β€”
it's often not about discipline.

It's about environment.

The right environment doesn't just support your practice β€” it becomes part of it.
When space, scent, sound, and intention align, the shift in awareness happens more naturally and more deeply.

Imagine this:
sacred symbols on the walls, soft fabric against your skin, a steady place to sit.
A match is struck. Smoke rises β€” bergamot, frankincense β€” something ancient and grounding.
Sound moves quietly in the background, and time begins to slow.

You don't force the state.
You arrive in it.

This is what a ritual feels like when every element is aligned.

If you want to make your practice feel like this, start simple:

You don't need everything.
Just one element can change the entire experience.

The tools that help create this space β€” and how to use them in your own practice:

Tapestries

Sacred symbols woven into fabric become silent guardians of the space β€” helping the mind cross the threshold from the ordinary into the sacred. Designed to anchor your ritual environment and hold energetic intention throughout your practice.

Yoga Mats

A dedicated surface signals to body and spirit alike: this is where the work begins. Everything else falls away. Built for comfort and stability, so your body can settle fully while your awareness expands.

Audio Meditations

Let sound do what the mind cannot do alone. In the stillness it creates, intuition finds its voice. Guided sessions crafted to deepen receptivity, clear mental noise, and prepare you for meaningful spiritual work.

Ritual Kits

When the tools are already gathered, the only thing left is intention. Light something. Begin. Thoughtfully assembled sets that bring together everything needed for a complete, intentional ceremony.

Personal Practice Journals

Every reading, every vision, every quiet knowing β€” written down before the ordinary world reclaims it. Structured to support reflection, pattern recognition, and the long-term deepening of your practice.

Apparel

What you wear into a ritual becomes part of it. Soft, intentional, yours. Designed for ease of movement and energetic comfort, from morning meditation to evening ceremony.

Aromatherapy Candles

A flame changes a room. Let the scent that rises with it mark the beginning of something set apart from the rest of the day. Formulated with sacred botanicals to cleanse energy, anchor intention, and deepen meditative states.

Books

Some knowledge can only be absorbed slowly, over many readings. Let the right book become a companion to your practice. Curated titles spanning mysticism, ritual, and esoteric wisdom β€” to take your understanding further.
