Isis in Astrology: The Goddess of Magic, Resurrection & Divine Love
Share
What Is Isis in Astrology?
Isis (asteroid 42) is one of the most powerful and spiritually significant minor asteroids in the natal chart. Named after the great Egyptian goddess of magic, healing, and resurrection — one of the most widely worshipped deities in the ancient world — Isis governs magical healing, resurrection and renewal, the power of devoted love, the integration of fragmented parts into wholeness, and the capacity to work with the invisible forces of the universe.
In the natal chart, Isis reveals your capacity for magical healing and resurrection, your relationship with the invisible forces of the universe, and the specific quality of your devoted, transformative love. She is the asteroid of the healer who works with magic as well as medicine, the lover whose devotion can literally resurrect the dead, and the one who gathers the scattered fragments of what has been destroyed and makes it whole again.
Isis is distinct from Chiron (which governs the wound and the healing gifts that emerge from it) and from Ceres (which governs nourishment and the grief of loss). Isis governs specifically the magical dimension of healing — the capacity to work with invisible forces, to resurrect what has been destroyed, and to integrate what has been fragmented through the power of devoted love and magical intention.
The Mythology of Isis
Isis was one of the most important deities in the Egyptian pantheon — the goddess of magic, healing, motherhood, and the throne. Her most famous myth is the story of the resurrection of Osiris. Her husband Osiris was murdered by his brother Set, who dismembered his body and scattered the pieces across Egypt. Isis, with the help of her sister Nephthys, searched the entire land, gathered all the pieces of Osiris's body, and used her magical powers to resurrect him long enough to conceive their son Horus.
This myth encodes the essential Isis archetype: the devoted love that will not accept destruction, the magical power that can gather scattered fragments and make them whole, the capacity to resurrect what has been killed, and the extraordinary power of the feminine to work with the invisible forces of the universe in service of love and healing.
Isis was also the great magician — in Egyptian tradition, she was considered the most powerful of all the gods in the art of magic. She was the protector of the dead, the healer of the sick, the guardian of children, and the divine mother of the pharaoh. Her wings — depicted in Egyptian art as spread wide in a gesture of protection — became one of the most enduring symbols of divine feminine protection and healing power.

In the natal chart, a prominent Isis often indicates a deep longing for and capacity to create this kind of sacred union — not just in romantic partnership, but in the integration of complementary forces within the self.
