Judgement as the Call of the True Self
Share
BY NICOLE LAU
Judgement (XX) is not about being judged by an external authorityβit's about hearing the call of your True Self and rising to answer it. The angel's trumpet sounds, the dead rise from their graves, and what was buried comes to life. This is awakening, resurrection, and the moment you become who you truly are.
The Angel's Trumpet: The Divine Call
An angel blows a trumpet from the clouds:
- The call: Your True Self calling you to awaken
- The trumpet: Loud, clear, impossible to ignore
- From above: The call comes from higher consciousness
- The sound: Vibration that awakens what's dormant
The trumpet is the voice of the Selfβyour deepest nature calling you to become authentic.
Rising from the Graves: Resurrection
Figures rise from coffins, arms raised:
- The dead: Parts of yourself you've buried
- Rising: What was repressed returns to consciousness
- Resurrection: Not just survival but renewed life
- Awakening: Coming back to life after being asleep
The graves represent all you've buriedβgifts, traumas, truths, potentials. Judgement calls them all to rise.
The Three Figures: Integration of All Aspects
Three figures riseβman, woman, and child:
- The man: Masculine principle, conscious mind, animus
- The woman: Feminine principle, unconscious, anima
- The child: The divine child, the integrated Self
- The family: All aspects of psyche reunited
Judgement integrates what Death separated and Temperance blendedβnow all parts rise together.
The Cross on the Flag: Redemption
The angel's flag bears a cross:
- The cross: Intersection of spirit and matter, vertical and horizontal
- Redemption: What was lost is found, what died is reborn
- Wholeness: The four directions united
- Victory: Over death, over separation, over illusion
The cross signals that this resurrection is sacred, redemptive, and complete.
What Judgement Judges
Judgement is not external condemnationβit's self-assessment:
- Have you been authentic? Living your truth or someone else's?
- Have you answered the call? Or ignored your purpose?
- Have you integrated? Or remained fragmented?
- Are you awake? Or still sleepwalking through life?
The judgement comes from withinβyour True Self evaluating whether you're living in alignment.
Judgement in the Fool's Journey
Judgement (XX) comes near the end, after the Sun (XIX) and before the World (XXI):
- The Sun: Clarity, joy, enlightenment
- Judgement: The call to embody what you've learned
- The World: Completion, wholeness, return to unity
Judgement is the penultimate cardβthe final awakening before completion.
Judgement as Spiritual Awakening
Judgement represents the moment of awakening:
- Sudden realization: Seeing truth you've been blind to
- Calling: Knowing your purpose with certainty
- Resurrection: Coming back to life after spiritual death
- Authenticity: Becoming who you truly are
- Integration: All parts of self unified
This is the "aha!" moment, the conversion experience, the awakening that changes everything.
Judgement Across Traditions
The Judgement archetype appears as:
- The Last Judgement (Christianity): The dead rising at the end of time
- Bodhi (Buddhism): Awakening to your true nature
- Moksha (Hinduism): Liberation from illusion
- The Call (Shamanism): The spirits calling you to your path
- Metanoia (Greek): Complete transformation of mind and heart
All point to the same truth: there comes a moment when you must answer the call and become authentic.
The Call You Can't Ignore
Judgement is the call that won't be denied:
- You've heard it before and ignored it
- You've made excuses and delayed
- You've been afraid and hidden
- But now the trumpet sounds so loud you can't pretend not to hear
Judgement is the moment when ignoring your truth becomes more painful than facing it.
Judgement in Readings
When Judgement appears, it signals:
- The call is sounding: Your True Self is calling you
- Time to rise: What you've buried must come to light
- Awakening is here: You can't stay asleep anymore
- Answer the call: Your purpose is clearβwill you follow it?
- Integration is complete: All parts of you are ready to unify
- Resurrection: What seemed dead is coming back to life
Judgement asks: Do you hear the call? Will you rise? Will you become who you truly are?
Answering vs. Ignoring the Call
| Ignoring the Call | Answering the Call |
|---|---|
| Staying in the grave | Rising to new life |
| Living inauthentically | Becoming your True Self |
| Fragmentation continues | Integration achieved |
| Spiritual death | Spiritual resurrection |
| Regret and "what if" | Fulfillment and purpose |
The call sounds for everyone. The difference is whether you answer.
Practical Application: Hearing and Answering the Call
To work with Judgement energy:
- Listen for the call: What is your True Self asking of you?
- Let what's buried rise: Stop repressing gifts, truths, potentials
- Integrate all parts: Masculine, feminine, childβall aspects of self
- Be authentic: Stop living someone else's life
- Answer the call: Even if you're afraid, even if it's hard
- Rise: Come back to life, wake up, become real
The trumpet sounds. The call is clear. Your True Self is calling you to rise, to awaken, to become authentic. What you've buriedβgifts, truths, potentialsβmust come to light. The graves are opening. Will you rise? Will you answer? Will you become who you truly are?
