Knot Magic Love Binding: Ethical Commitment Spell
Share
Tying Love with Intention
Knot magic uses physical knots to bind intentions and energies. In love magic, knots can represent commitment, binding two people together, or sealing a promise.
Ethical Knot Binding
Important: Only use knot binding magic with consent. This is for committed couples who BOTH want to deepen their bond.
Handfasting Knot Ritual
You'll need: Red cord or ribbon (long enough to wrap around both wrists), two people who consent
The ritual (do together):
1. Stand facing each other (5 minutes)
Hold hands. Look into each other's eyes. Feel your love.
2. Wrap the cord (10 minutes)
Wrap the cord around both your wrists in a figure-eight pattern (infinity symbol). As you wrap, speak your commitments to each other.
3. Tie the knots (15 minutes)
Tie 3, 7, or 9 knots (sacred numbers). With each knot, speak a promise:
"I promise to love you."
"I promise to honor you."
"I promise to grow with you."
Continue until all knots are tied.
4. Seal the binding (5 minutes)
Say together: "By these knots, we are bound. In love, in commitment, in partnership. As we will it, so mote it be."
5. Release or keep (variable)
You can untie and keep the cord as a talisman, or stay bound for a set time (traditional handfasting is a year and a day).
Solo Knot Spell for Attracting Commitment
You'll need: Pink cord
Tie 9 knots in the cord. With each knot, state a quality you want in a committed partner. Keep the knotted cord on your altar. When you meet someone, untie one knot for each quality they embody. When all knots are untied, you've found your match.
Your Knot Magic Practice
Knots are powerful because they're physical representations of energetic bonds. What you tie in the physical, you tie in the energetic. Use this power wisely and ethically.
Knot magic is one of the oldest forms of love binding in the world β practiced across Norse, Celtic, Mediterranean, and African traditions, it works by physically encoding an intention into a material object through the act of tying, which creates a tangible anchor for the love energy in the physical world, and ethical love binding through knot magic is not about controlling another person but about binding yourself to your intention and creating a physical representation of the commitment you are making to love. The 40 Manifestation Rituals guide offers a structured path for grounding such intentions, while the 13 New Moon Rituals align your binding work with lunar cycles for deeper resonance. For those drawn to the symbolic language of knots, the Tarot Journaling Prompts help clarify the qualities you truly seek in partnership, and the The 52-Week Tarot Journey supports ongoing reflection on the commitments you make. The Emotional Filter Ritual Kit provides a cleansing practice to ensure your energetic bonds remain clear and intentional.
