Leo New Moon Ritual: The Radiance — Creative Expression and Visibility
Share
There is a difference between performing and shining.
Performance is calculated: it monitors itself, adjusts for the audience, and measures its success by the response it receives. Shining is different. Shining is what happens when you are so genuinely present in your own creative expression that the question of audience response becomes, for a moment, secondary to the aliveness of the expression itself.
The Leo new moon is an invitation to shine.
The Energy of Leo
Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac — the creator, the performer, the one who was born to express. Its element is fire. Its modality is fixed — like Taurus, it sustains and holds steady, but where Taurus sustains through the earth of patience and persistence, Leo sustains through the fire of creative passion and the deep commitment to its own authentic expression. Its ruling body is the sun itself.
Leo energy is: generous, warm, creative, playful, and genuinely interested in joy as a spiritual and human good. Leo is the sign that understands that aliveness itself is a form of service — that when you are genuinely, fully, radiantly yourself, you give others permission to be the same.
The shadow of Leo is the slide from shining into performing — from genuine expression into the anxious monitoring of how the expression is being received. The wound of Leo is often the wound of visibility: the experience of being seen in full creative expression and having it met with rejection, ridicule, or indifference. The Leo new moon asks: can you shine regardless of the response?
When the Leo New Moon Occurs
The Leo new moon falls in late July or August, in the height of summer. It often coincides with the season when creative energy is most accessible — when the long light of summer, the warmth, and the natural outwardness of the season create the conditions for expression. This is the moon that says: make something. Show yourself. Let yourself be seen.
What the Leo New Moon Asks
The Leo new moon asks: What wants to be expressed through you?
Not what should you create for strategic reasons. Not what would be marketable or impressive or well-received. What is alive in you right now that wants to come out — that has been circling inside you, looking for an opening?
It also asks the harder question: where have you been hiding? Where have you been making yourself smaller, dimmer, more manageable, less present than you actually are? And what would it cost you to stop doing that, even for one lunar cycle?
The Radiance Ritual
The Leo new moon ritual — The Radiance — is a fire-based, creativity-centered practice focused on authentic expression and the courage to be seen.
What you need:
- A gold or bright orange candle
- Something creative: a journal, art supplies, an instrument, fabric, anything that connects you to creative expression
- Optional: sunstone or citrine, both associated with Leo's solar fire and creative energy
The practice:
- Light the candle and take a moment to feel the warmth of the flame. Let it remind you of the warmth of your own creative fire.
- Ask: where have I been hiding? Write honestly. What are the specific ways you have been making yourself smaller or less visible?
- Ask: what wants to be expressed right now? Not what should be expressed. What is alive and wanting out?
- Set a creative intention for the coming cycle: one specific creative act you will complete and, if possible, share.
- Do something creative right now, in the ritual space, for at least ten minutes. Draw, write, sing, move. Do not judge it. Just create.
- Close by saying: "I give myself permission to shine." Mean it.
Journaling Prompts for the Leo New Moon
- What creative expression have I been holding back, and why? What is the fear beneath the holding back?
- When have I felt most radiantly, genuinely myself? What was present in that moment that I can cultivate more of?
- What would I create if I knew it would be received with love?
