LEO & Tarot: Your Archetypal Cards & Spreads

BY NICOLE LAU
Tarot and astrology aren't separate systems pointing to different truths—they're different calculation methods revealing the same archetypal constants. As a Leo, your fire energy manifests through specific tarot archetypes that mirror your astrological blueprint. Understanding these correspondences isn't about symbolic interpretation—it's about recognizing the invariant patterns that define your path.
This is constant unification in action: astrology calculates your energy through planetary positions, tarot calculates it through archetypal imagery. Different methods, same truth.
Your Ruling Card: Strength (VIII)
Strength is your primary archetypal constant. This isn't metaphor—it's the tarot's calculation of the same energy astrology identifies as Leo.
The Archetypal Pattern
Heart-Centered Power: Strength shows a figure gently closing a lion's mouth—power through love, not force. This is your Leo energy in tarot form—the constant of strength that comes from the heart, not the fist.
Courage and Compassion: The Strength card represents bravery combined with gentleness. Your Sun-ruled nature manifests as the capacity to be both powerful and kind, fierce and loving.
Taming the Beast: Strength doesn't kill the lion—it befriends it. Your Leo energy is about mastering your own power, channeling your fire constructively rather than destructively.
Shadow Aspects
Strength reversed reveals your shadow: weakness disguised as aggression, ego-driven power, cruelty masked as strength. When your Leo fire becomes tyrannical, you see it in Strength's loss of heart—force without love, power without compassion.
Your Secondary Card: The Sun (XIX)
The Sun, your ruling planet, also has its own Major Arcana card. This card reveals another facet of your archetypal constant.
The Archetypal Pattern
Radiant Joy: The Sun represents pure, unfiltered vitality and joy. Your solar energy manifests as natural radiance—you light up spaces simply by being yourself.
Authentic Self-Expression: The Sun shows a child riding naked—complete authenticity without shame. Your Leo nature is about expressing your true self without apology.
Life-Giving Energy: The Sun sustains all life. Your fire energy is meant to warm and illuminate others, not burn them.
Supporting Cards in Your Constellation
Five of Wands: Creative Conflict
Leo in the first decan (July 23-August 1) connects to the Five of Wands. This card shows your competitive nature and the creative energy that comes from healthy challenge.
Six of Wands: Victory and Recognition
Leo in the second decan (August 2-12) connects to the Six of Wands. This is your need for acknowledgment and your capacity to inspire others through your victories.
Seven of Wands: Defending Your Position
Leo in the third decan (August 13-22) connects to the Seven of Wands. This card shows your courage to stand alone and defend what you've created.
Your Leo Tarot Spread
This spread is designed specifically for your Leo energy. Use it monthly or when you need clarity on your path.
The Heart's Kingdom Spread (5 Cards)
Position 1 - The Throne (Center): What is my true power right now?
Position 2 - The Crown (Above): What recognition am I seeking?
Position 3 - The Heart (Below): What does my heart truly desire?
Position 4 - The Lion (Left): What wild energy needs to be channeled?
Position 5 - The Light (Right): How can I shine more authentically?
How to Read This Spread
As a Leo, you're heart-centered and radiant. This spread honors your need for both power and authenticity. The Throne card shows your current strength. The Crown reveals what recognition you seek. The Heart card shows your true desire. The Lion card names what needs channeling. The Light card guides authentic expression.
Working With Your Cards
Daily Practice
Pull the Strength card from your deck each morning. Place it where you'll see it. Ask: "How can I embody heart-centered power today?" Let it remind you that true strength is gentle.
Shadow Work
When you feel your Leo energy becoming tyrannical—too dominating, too ego-driven, too demanding—pull Strength and The Sun. Ask: "Am I leading with my heart or my ego? Am I shining or showing off?"
New Moon Ritual
On the Leo New Moon (late July/early August), do a full reading with your constellation cards: Strength, The Sun, and your decan card. Ask: "How is my Leo energy evolving? What power needs heart? What light wants to shine?"
Constant Unification: Why This Matters
Understanding your tarot-astrology correspondence isn't about collecting symbolic associations. It's about recognizing that different systems calculate the same underlying truth.
Astrology says: "You have Sun in Leo, therefore you're radiant and heart-centered."
Tarot says: "You embody Strength and The Sun, therefore you lead with courageous love."
These aren't different truths—they're the same constant calculated through different methods. When you understand this, you stop collecting interpretations and start recognizing patterns. You see the invariant truth beneath the varying forms.
Integration Practice
Journal Prompt: "How does my Strength energy (tarot) manifest through my Leo nature (astrology)? Where do I see the same pattern expressed differently?"
Meditation: Visualize yourself as Strength, gently taming the lion, and The Sun, radiating pure joy. Feel how these are the same energy—different images, same truth.
Action Step: Identify one area where you're using force instead of heart (Strength). Take one action this week to lead with love instead (Sun).

Remember: tarot and astrology aren't separate systems. They're different languages speaking the same truth. Your Leo fire is Strength's courage. Your Sun energy is The Sun's radiance. Different calculations, same constant.
Lead with your heart. Shine your light. Roar.
This constant unification is the thread I return to again and again—the way Heart-Centered Power mirrors the quiet strength of the Sacred Space Cleanse, the way each New Moon ritual deepens the lunar dance I explore in 13 New Moon Rituals, and the way the Heart's Kingdom spread flows so naturally into the nightly reflections in Tarot Journaling Prompts. For those ready to live this daily rhythm, the 30-Day Tarot Practice Workbook turns these principles into embodied habit, while The 52-Week Tarot Journey offers a year of unfolding the same archetypal constants you see here.
