LIBRA Retrograde: Shadow Work & Inner Review

BY NICOLE LAU

When planets retrograde through Libra, the mirror of relationship turns inward. This is not a time for keeping the peace, but for examining your relationship with balance, authenticity, and the ways you've abandoned yourself to maintain harmony. Retrograde periods invite you to review your people-pleasing patterns and reclaim your voice.

Understanding Libra Retrograde Energy

Libra governs relationships, balance, beauty, justice, and the delicate dance between self and other. When retrograde energy moves through this sign, it creates a relational reckoning that asks you to examine:

  • People-pleasing – Silencing your truth to keep others comfortable
  • Codependency – Losing your identity in relationships
  • Conflict avoidance – Choosing false peace over authentic connection
  • Self-abandonment – Prioritizing others' needs while ignoring your own
  • Approval addiction – Needing to be liked more than being yourself

This retrograde asks: Who am I when I'm not trying to keep everyone happy? What relationships require me to disappear?

The Shadow Work: Facing the People-Pleaser

Libra retrograde reveals the shadow of the harmonizer – the part of you that says yes when you mean no, that changes your opinions to match others', and that believes being liked is more important than being real.

Shadow Prompts for Libra Retrograde:

People-Pleasing & Authenticity:
β€’ Where do I say yes when I mean no?
β€’ What truth am I withholding to avoid conflict?
β€’ Where do I perform a version of myself to be accepted?
β€’ What would I lose if people saw the real me?

Codependency & Identity:
β€’ Where have I lost myself in a relationship?
β€’ What do I believe about myself that's actually someone else's opinion?
β€’ Where do I need someone else to feel complete?
β€’ Who am I without this relationship/role/dynamic?

Conflict & Boundaries:
β€’ What boundary am I afraid to set?
β€’ Where do I keep the peace at the cost of my truth?
β€’ What would happen if I let someone be disappointed in me?
β€’ Where have I confused harmony with silence?

Inner Review Ritual: The Mirror's Truth

This ritual helps you reclaim your center and remember that true balance includes your voice, your needs, your truth.

You'll Need:

  • Pink or light blue candle
  • Mirror
  • Rose quartz or lepidolite crystal
  • Journal and pen
  • Two objects of equal weight (stones, coins)

The Practice:

1. Find Your Center
Light your candle. Place the two objects on either side of you (representing self and other). Sit before the mirror and take five deep breaths, feeling your own presence without reference to anyone else.

2. The Shadow Inventory
Write down the ways you've been abandoning yourself:
β€’ The yeses that should have been nos
β€’ The opinions you changed to fit in
β€’ The needs you suppressed to avoid being "too much"
β€’ The relationships where you must be less to be loved
β€’ The conflicts you avoided at the cost of your truth

3. The Cost Acknowledgment
For each pattern, write what it has cost you. What parts of yourself have you lost? What resentment have you built? What authenticity have you sacrificed?

4. The Integration
Look in the mirror and speak:
"I release the false peace of self-abandonment. I reclaim my place on the scales. My needs are as sacred as anyone else's. True harmony includes my voice, my truth, my boundaries. I am worthy of relationships that honor all of me."

5. The Boundary Vow
Write one specific boundary you will set this retrograde. Commit to honoring your needs as much as you honor others'.

Retrograde Practices: Authentic Balance

During Libra retrograde, practice creating balance that includes you:

  • Voice your truth – Share one authentic opinion daily, even if it differs from others'
  • Practice "no" – Decline one request that doesn't align with your needs
  • Sit with discomfort – Allow someone to be disappointed without rushing to fix it
  • Self-check-in – Before agreeing to anything, ask: "What do I actually want?"
  • Celebrate disagreement – Notice that relationships can survive differing perspectives

Integration Questions

As you move through this retrograde, reflect on:

  • What relationship needs rebalancing to include me?
  • Where can I choose authenticity over approval?
  • What boundary would honor my truth?
  • How can I create harmony without silencing myself?
  • What would change if I believed the right people can handle my full truth?

Affirmation

I am whole within myself. My worth is not determined by how well I please others. I create harmony by honoring my truth, not by silencing it. I am worthy of relationships that celebrate all of me, not just the parts that are easy to love.

Libra retrograde is not a time to keep the peace, but to reclaim your voice and trust that authentic relationships can hold your full truth. True balance is not achieved by making yourself smaller.

May you reclaim your center and speak your truth with grace.

More Ways to Deepen Your Practice

If you've ever felt like your practice isn't going deep enough β€”
like your mind stays busy, your body never fully settles, or the space around you feels distracting β€”
it's often not about discipline.

It's about environment.

The right environment doesn't just support your practice β€” it becomes part of it.
When space, scent, sound, and intention align, the shift in awareness happens more naturally and more deeply.

Imagine this:
sacred symbols on the walls, soft fabric against your skin, a steady place to sit.
A match is struck. Smoke rises β€” bergamot, frankincense β€” something ancient and grounding.
Sound moves quietly in the background, and time begins to slow.

You don't force the state.
You arrive in it.

This is what a ritual feels like when every element is aligned.

If you want to make your practice feel like this, start simple:

You don't need everything.
Just one element can change the entire experience.

The tools that help create this space β€” and how to use them in your own practice:

Tapestries

Sacred symbols woven into fabric become silent guardians of the space β€” helping the mind cross the threshold from the ordinary into the sacred. Designed to anchor your ritual environment and hold energetic intention throughout your practice.

Yoga Mats

A dedicated surface signals to body and spirit alike: this is where the work begins. Everything else falls away. Built for comfort and stability, so your body can settle fully while your awareness expands.

Audio Meditations

Let sound do what the mind cannot do alone. In the stillness it creates, intuition finds its voice. Guided sessions crafted to deepen receptivity, clear mental noise, and prepare you for meaningful spiritual work.

Ritual Kits

When the tools are already gathered, the only thing left is intention. Light something. Begin. Thoughtfully assembled sets that bring together everything needed for a complete, intentional ceremony.

Personal Practice Journals

Every reading, every vision, every quiet knowing β€” written down before the ordinary world reclaims it. Structured to support reflection, pattern recognition, and the long-term deepening of your practice.

Apparel

What you wear into a ritual becomes part of it. Soft, intentional, yours. Designed for ease of movement and energetic comfort, from morning meditation to evening ceremony.

Aromatherapy Candles

A flame changes a room. Let the scent that rises with it mark the beginning of something set apart from the rest of the day. Formulated with sacred botanicals to cleanse energy, anchor intention, and deepen meditative states.

Books

Some knowledge can only be absorbed slowly, over many readings. Let the right book become a companion to your practice. Curated titles spanning mysticism, ritual, and esoteric wisdom β€” to take your understanding further.
