Not the skill developed through effort (though that matters) but the native endowment — the thing that was present before the world taught you what to do with it.
Card 2 — The Wound That Became a Gift: The most consistent pattern in genuine purpose is that the wound and the gift are the same thing at different stages of development. What difficulty, struggle, or experience of lack has been the specific laboratory in which this person's most important capacity has been developed? What has the hardest thing taught you that has become the most useful thing you offer?
Card 3 — What the World Needs That I Can Give: Purpose is not only about the self; it is about the intersection of the self's gifts with a genuine need in the world. What specific need — not the most impressive or the most socially valued, but the one that genuinely matches this person's gifts — is this person positioned to serve?

The Three-Step Shift Practice
Step 1: Before the reading, write for five minutes in response to this prompt without editing or overthinking: "When I forget about money, expectations, and what I'm supposed to want, what I actually care most about is..." Write whatever comes. Do not perform this answer; write the true one.
