Love Drawing Oil and Self-Love Oil: Magical Oil Recipes for the Heart
Share
The magical tradition's engagement with love has always recognized that there are two distinct but inseparable dimensions of heart work: the love that draws another toward you, and the love that turns toward yourself — and that the second is the foundation of the first. An oil blended for love drawing works with the magnetic, attractive force of the heart's genuine openness; an oil blended for self-love works with the inward cultivation of that openness, the turning of the heart's warmth toward the one who needs it most and receives it least. These two blends are made for each other: the self-love oil is the root from which the love drawing oil grows.
Love Drawing Oil: The Heart's Magnetic Blend
Purpose: To open the heart to love, to increase magnetic attractiveness and the quality of genuine radiance, to draw romantic love, deep friendship, or loving connection into the life.
Essential oil formula (per 10ml carrier):
- Rose absolute: 3 drops — the supreme oil of love and the heart, resonant with Venus and the heart chakra
- Ylang ylang: 2 drops — deeply sensual, magnetic, and heart-opening; the oil of genuine desire and attraction
- Sandalwood: 3 drops — grounding and warm, the oil of genuine intimacy and lasting connection
- Jasmine absolute: 2 drops — the oil of deep love, romance, and the highest expression of the heart's longing
Carrier oil: Sweet almond oil (traditionally associated with love and Venus) or jojoba for the most skin-friendly application.
Botanical additions: Rose quartz chip, dried rose petals, a small piece of dried hibiscus flower.
Best time to make: Friday (Venus's day, the day of love magic) during the waxing moon, ideally when the moon is in Taurus, Libra, or Cancer. The new moon to full moon window is the most powerful for drawing and attraction work.
How to use: Anoint the heart center (center of the chest), the wrists, the base of the throat, and behind the ears. Anoint pink or red candles for love ritual, moving from the base toward the wick (drawing toward you). Add a few drops to a warm bath. Anoint rose quartz or any love talisman before carrying it.
Self-Love Oil: The Heart's Inward Blend
Purpose: To cultivate genuine self-compassion and self-regard, to heal the heart's relationship with itself, to restore the felt sense of being genuinely worthy of love and care.
Essential oil formula (per 10ml carrier):
- Rose absolute: 3 drops — rose is the oil of the heart without qualification; here it turns inward rather than outward
- Geranium: 3 drops — the oil of emotional balance and the restoration of the heart's natural rhythm; deeply nurturing
- Bergamot: 2 drops — the oil of self-acceptance, of the releasing of self-judgment, of the warmth of genuine self-regard
- Palmarosa: 2 drops — the gentle, rosy oil of emotional healing and the heart's restoration to its natural sweetness
Carrier oil: Rosehip seed oil (a deeply nourishing, vitamin-rich carrier that is itself a form of self-care for the skin) or jojoba.
Botanical additions: Rose quartz chip, a small piece of dried lavender, dried rose petals.
Best time to make: Friday or Sunday (the day of the heart's solar warmth turned inward). Any moon phase is appropriate for self-love work, as it is cultivation rather than drawing or releasing.
How to use: Anoint the heart center with deliberate, slow attention — place both hands over the anointed area and breathe. Use in any self-care practice: the bath, the morning routine, the moment before meditation. Anoint the body as an act of acknowledgment: "This body is worthy of care. This heart is worthy of love." Use consistently rather than occasionally — the self-love oil works through the practice of regular, deliberate attention to the self.
