Seeking Guidance from the Waters
Neptunalia is a powerful time for divination, especially water-based methods. Neptune's energy enhances psychic abilities, water's reflective nature reveals hidden truths, and the Leo-Cancer cusp creates perfect conditions for accessing both intuition (water) and clarity (fire).
Water Scrying: The Ancient Art
What is Water Scrying?
Water scrying (hydromancy) is divination through gazing into water to receive visions, symbols, or intuitive knowing. Romans practiced this, believing Neptune could send messages through his watery domain.
Preparing for Water Scrying
Vessel: Dark bowl (black, dark blue, or dark ceramic), cauldron, or natural body of water. Water: Ocean water (ideal for Neptunalia), spring water, or purified water. Add pinch of sea salt. Lighting: Candlelight (blue or silver candles). Place behind you so it reflects in water. Timing: Neptunalia night (July 23rd), especially midnight. Setting: Quiet, undisturbed space. Comfortable seating. Relaxed but alert state.
Water Scrying Technique
1. Preparation: Fill bowl with water. Light candles. Sit comfortably. Take deep breaths. Center yourself.
2. Invocation: Speak: "Neptune, lord of waters, grant me vision. Show me what I need to know. Let your waters reveal truth."
3. Gazing: Look into water with soft, unfocused gaze. Don't strain. Let eyes relax. Blink naturally.
4. Receptivity: Watch for: images or symbols in water, colors or light patterns, movement or ripples, mist forming on surface, your reflection transforming. Notice thoughts, feelings, or knowings that arise.
5. Duration: Scry for 10-20 minutes. If nothing comes, that's okay. Message may arrive later in dreams.
6. Recording: Immediately write everything you saw, felt, or knew. Don't analyze yet—just record.
7. Interpretation: Later, reflect on symbols and messages. Trust your intuition about meaning.
8. Closing: Thank Neptune. Pour water onto earth as offering. Extinguish candles.
What You Might See
Literal images (faces, places, objects), symbolic shapes (sea creatures, waves, ships), colors with emotional resonance, movement patterns (swirling, stillness, ripples), mist or fog forming, your reflection changing. Sometimes you receive knowing without visual images—trust this too.

In tarot, Cups suit represents water element. If many Cups appear in Neptunalia reading: Strong emotional component to situation, intuition is key, flow rather than force, healing is available, Neptune's influence is strong.
Key water cards: Ace of Cups: New emotional beginning, Neptune's blessing. Two of Cups: Partnership, emotional connection. Three of Cups: Celebration, community, joy. Queen of Cups: Emotional mastery, psychic ability. King of Cups: Emotional wisdom, calm depths.
Other Divination Methods
Shell Casting
Use seashells for divination. Collect 7-13 shells of different types. Assign meaning to each (love, money, health, travel, etc.). Cast on cloth and read patterns: Shells close together: connection, unity. Shells far apart: separation, independence. Shell pointing at you: coming toward you. Shell pointing away: leaving you. Overlapping shells: complexity, multiple factors.
Wave Reading
At the ocean, observe waves for omens. Large, powerful waves: Strong energy, major changes coming. Gentle, rhythmic waves: Peace, steady progress. Choppy, irregular waves: Turbulence, uncertainty. Waves bringing gifts (shells, seaweed): Blessings arriving. Waves taking things away: Release, letting go.
Water Drop Divination
Drop water onto hot surface (safe metal plate). Observe patterns: Quick evaporation: Fast resolution. Slow evaporation: Patience needed. Water beads up: Protection, boundaries. Water spreads: Expansion, growth. Specific shapes: Interpret symbolically.
Preparing for Neptunalia Divination
Cleanse divination tools with ocean water or salt water. Create altar with Neptune imagery, shells, blue candles. Face west (water's direction). Set intention: "Neptune, grant me clear vision. Show me truth through your waters. I am open to receive."
Enhancing Divinatory Receptivity
Drink water before divination (staying hydrated enhances psychic ability). Hold aquamarine or moonstone. Burn ocean-scented incense or use sea salt. Listen to ocean sounds. Meditate on Neptune's power. Bathe in salt water before divination.
Interpreting Neptunalia Divination
Look for themes of: Flow and movement, emotional patterns, what needs release, what's coming in, depth and hidden truths, healing and purification, Neptune's guidance and blessing.
Trust your first impression. Water speaks to intuition, not logic. If a message feels true in your gut, it likely is.
After the Divination
Record reading in detail with date. Make offering to Neptune (pour water, leave shells). Take one action based on guidance within three days. Return to reading at next Neptunalia to see what manifested. Thank Neptune for his wisdom.
Ethical Divination
Don't divine about others without permission. Use divination for guidance, not control. Don't become dependent on divination. Balance intuitive knowing with practical wisdom. Remember divination shows possibilities, not fixed fate. Respect Neptune's power—don't demand answers.
