The Transformation Story: According to folklore, Eostre found a wounded bird dying in the snow at winter's end. To save it, she transformed it into a hare, giving it the ability to survive. However, the hare retained its bird nature and could still lay eggs. In gratitude, the hare decorated eggs and left them as gifts for Eostre each spring.
