Presidential Astrology: From Reagan to Modern Leaders
Share
Introduction: The Stars in the Oval Office
American presidents have consulted astrologers since the founding of the republic—but none more famously than Ronald Reagan, whose reliance on astrologer Joan Quigley became one of the most controversial political scandals of the 1980s.
From George Washington's Masonic astrology to JFK's secret consultations to Reagan's scheduled press conferences, the stars have influenced American political leadership in ways the public rarely sees. Presidential birth charts reveal leadership styles, vulnerabilities, and destinies—and astrological timing has shaped critical decisions from inaugurations to military strikes.
This is the seventeenth article in our Astrology & History series. We now explore how astrology has operated in the highest office in the land, how presidents' charts predict their successes and failures, and how celestial timing continues to influence American power.
The Founding Fathers and Astrology
The American Revolution occurred during the Enlightenment, when educated elites were skeptical of astrology—yet many Founding Fathers had connections to esoteric traditions.
George Washington (1732-1799)
Washington was a Freemason, and Masonic rituals incorporate astrological symbolism. The cornerstone of the U.S. Capitol was laid on September 18, 1793, with Masonic ceremonies timed to favorable planetary positions.
Washington's birth chart (February 22, 1732) shows:
- Sun in Pisces: Visionary, idealistic, self-sacrificing leadership
- Moon in Capricorn: Disciplined, authoritative, strategic
- Saturn in Libra: Commitment to justice, law, and balanced governance
Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)
Jefferson was a rationalist who publicly dismissed astrology, yet he owned astrological texts and studied celestial mechanics. His chart (April 13, 1743) shows:
- Sun in Aries: Revolutionary, independent, pioneering
- Moon in Aquarius: Intellectual, egalitarian, visionary
- Mercury in Aries: Bold, innovative thinking

Lincoln reportedly dreamed of his own death days before the assassination—a premonition that astrologers interpret as unconscious awareness of malefic transits.

- Predict threats to Reagan's safety
- Analyze the horoscopes of foreign leaders (Gorbachev, Qaddafi)

- Defenders argued Nancy was simply protecting her husband
