Runes for Protection

BY NICOLE LAU
Runes—ancient Germanic and Norse alphabet used by Vikings and their ancestors—are far more than letters for writing. Each rune is symbol of cosmic force, magical tool, and protective power that has guarded Northern European peoples for over 2,000 years. Carved into weapons for victory, inscribed on amulets for safety, cast for divination and guidance, runes represent the fundamental forces of nature and fate that shape existence. Understanding protective runes—particularly Algiz (elk), Thurisaz (thorn), Eihwaz (yew), and others—reveals ancient Northern magic that protects through connection to primal powers, ancestral wisdom, and the fierce strength of Viking warriors who conquered seas and continents under runes' watchful guard.
