Sagittarius Shamanic Journeying: Lower, Middle & Upper Worlds

BY NICOLE LAU
If you're a Sagittarius, your shamanic journey isn't careful mapping—it's wild exploration. While other signs follow established paths, you blaze new trails. Your Jupiter-ruled fire doesn't journey—it adventures, treating all three worlds as vast territories to explore, turning every vision quest into a philosophical expedition.
Understanding the Three Worlds
In shamanic cosmology, reality has three layers:
Lower World: The realm of power animals, ancestral wisdom, and primal instinct. Earth's underworld—caves, roots, ancient memory.
Middle World: The realm of present reality, nature spirits, and the living. The here-and-now in its energetic form.
Upper World: The realm of spirit guides, celestial beings, and cosmic vision. Sky realms—stars, light, divine intelligence.
Your Sagittarius frequency accesses all three, but how you journey is uniquely expansive and truth-seeking.
Sagittarius in the Lower World: The Wild Hunt
The Lower World is accessed by going down—through caves, tree roots, wells, or tunnels. For Sagittarius, this descent is not retreat—it's hunting expedition.
Your Lower World Entry Point
Sagittarius doesn't slowly descend—you gallop down. Your entry points:
- A canyon carved by wild rivers—following the path of adventure into earth
- A centaur's cave—entering through your mythic self's dwelling
- An arrow shot into the ground—riding your own aim downward
- A forest trail that keeps going down—following curiosity into the depths
The key: your entry must involve movement, freedom, or quest. You don't crawl into the underworld—you charge in.
Your Lower World Power Animal
In the Lower World, you'll likely encounter power animals that match your adventurous frequency:
- The Horse: Wild and free—teaches that movement is medicine, that you're born to run
- The Wolf: Pack hunter and lone wanderer—teaches both community and independence
- The Owl: Night hunter—teaches wisdom through observation, truth through seeing
- The Centaur: Your mythic form—teaches integration of animal instinct and higher mind
Your power animal won't cage you. It will run with you, hunt with you, show you new territories. The teaching comes through adventure.
Lower World Sagittarius Medicine
What you retrieve from the Lower World:
- Ancestral wanderers: The explorers, travelers, seekers in your lineage
- Primal freedom: The instinct to roam, to quest, to never be caged
- Hunter's wisdom: How to track truth, how to aim for what matters
- Wild philosophy: The knowing that comes from experience, not books
Lower World Journey Practice
Preparation: Fast, driving drumming (6-7 beats per second). Sit upright or stand. Set bold intention: "I descend to hunt for truth."
The Descent: Visualize your entry point. Don't hesitate—run down. Feel the speed, the wind, the thrill. When you arrive in the Lower World, keep moving. Sagittarius journeys are active.
The Encounter: Your power animal appears, likely running. Join it. Hunt together. Ask while moving: "What truth am I seeking? What's the next horizon?" The answer comes through the chase.
The Return: Don't linger—grab your medicine and sprint back up. When you return, go outside. Move your body. Ground the adventure in action.
Sagittarius in the Middle World: The Open Road
The Middle World is this reality in its energetic form—the spirits of places, plants, animals, and elements as they exist now.
Your Middle World Territory
Sagittarius doesn't journey to enclosed spaces. You're drawn to:
- Open plains and horizons: Where you can see far, where nothing blocks the view
- Mountain peaks: High places where perspective expands
- Roads and paths: Literal and metaphorical—the journey itself
- Foreign lands: Places you've never been, cultures you don't know
Your Middle World Allies
In the Middle World, you work with:
- Fire elementals: Salamanders, flame spirits—teach expansion through heat
- Wind spirits: Beings of movement and change—teach that stagnation is death
- Travel guardians: Spirits of roads, crossroads—teach safe passage
- Teacher spirits: Wise beings who share knowledge—teach that learning never ends
Middle World Sagittarius Medicine
What you learn in the Middle World:
- Present-moment adventure: How to find the quest in ordinary life, here and now
- Cultural wisdom: What different places, peoples, spirits have to teach
- Philosophical practice: How to live your truth, not just think about it
- Generous teaching: How to share what you've learned without preaching
Middle World Journey Practice
Preparation: Go to an open place—hilltop, plain, beach. Face the horizon.
The Shift: Don't close your eyes—expand your vision. See the energy of the landscape. What spirits guard this territory? What does the horizon promise?
The Engagement: Introduce yourself as a seeker. Offer something (tobacco, cornmeal, gratitude). Ask: "What does this land want to teach me? What truth lives here?"
The Action: Middle World work for Sagittarius is active exploration. Walk, run, climb. The teaching comes through movement and discovery.
Sagittarius in the Upper World: The Cosmic Library
The Upper World is accessed by going up—through trees, mountains, ladders, or flight. For Sagittarius, this ascent is your natural direction.
Your Upper World Entry Point
Sagittarius doesn't climb—you shoot upward like an arrow. Your entry points:
- An arrow you've shot—riding your own aim to the stars
- A wild horse leaping skyward—galloping up into the cosmos
- A mountain peak—running to the top then leaping into sky
- Laughter or joy—the feeling itself lifting you up
The key: your ascent must be fast, free, and exhilarating. You don't labor upward—you soar.
Your Upper World Guides
In the Upper World, you'll encounter guides who match your philosophical frequency:
- Jupiter: Your ruling planet as deity—teaches benevolent expansion and wisdom
- Chiron: The wounded healer centaur—teaches that your wounds become your teaching
- Philosopher gods: Athena, Thoth, Saraswati—teach that wisdom is sacred
- The Cosmic Teacher: The universe itself as instructor—teaches through experience
Your guides won't give you dogma. They'll engage in dialogue, ask you questions, make you think. The teaching is Socratic.
Upper World Sagittarius Medicine
What you receive from the Upper World:
- Cosmic perspective: The view from so high that all problems become small
- Philosophical mission: What truth you're here to seek and share
- Optimistic blessing: The knowing that the universe is fundamentally good, that growth is possible
- Teaching mandate: Permission to share what you've learned, to guide others on the path
Upper World Journey Practice
Preparation: Fast drumming or uplifting music. Set intention: "I ascend to receive cosmic wisdom."
The Ascent: Visualize your arrow or horse. Launch upward—fast, direct, joyful. Break through clouds, atmosphere, into pure starlight. When you arrive in the Upper World, it's vast—infinite library, endless horizon.
The Audience: Meet your guide. Don't just listen—debate. Ask: "What's the truth I'm seeking? What's the next level of understanding?" Receive the teaching through dialogue and revelation.
The Return: Don't descend—dive back like a meteor. Bring the fire of truth. When you land, immediately share what you learned. Sagittarius medicine is meant to be taught.
Integration: The Sagittarius Three-World Practice
Your power comes from moving between all three worlds with adventurous spirit:
Lower World: Hunt for primal truth, retrieve ancestral wanderer wisdom, claim your freedom
Middle World: Explore HERE, learn from the land, practice your philosophy
Upper World: Receive cosmic perspective, philosophical mission, teaching mandate
Then teach. Shamanic journeying for Sagittarius isn't about hoarding wisdom—it's about sharing what you've discovered.
