Setting Intentions: How to Create Powerful Intentions That Manifest

By Nicole, Founder of Mystic Ryst

Setting intentions is the practice of consciously choosing what you want to create, experience, or embody—and directing your energy toward that vision. Unlike goals which focus on external achievements, intentions focus on how you want to feel, who you want to be, and the energy you want to cultivate. Intentions are the seeds you plant in the garden of your life.

Intentions vs. Goals

Goals: External, specific outcomes. "I will earn $100k." Future-focused, achievement-oriented.

Intentions: Internal states of being. "I am abundant and prosperous." Present-focused, energy-oriented.

Both are valuable. Intentions create the energy that attracts goals.

Why Intentions Work

Intentions direct your energy and focus. What you focus on expands. They align your subconscious with your desires, activate the Law of Attraction, and create coherence between your thoughts, emotions, and actions. Intentions are like programming your GPS—they guide you toward your destination.

How to Set Powerful Intentions

1. Get Clear on What You Want

What do you truly desire? How do you want to feel? Who do you want to become? Be honest with yourself.

2. Use Present Tense

"I am" not "I will be." Present tense signals to your subconscious it's already happening.

3. Make It Positive

Focus on what you want, not what you don't want. "I am peaceful" not "I am not stressed."

4. Include Feeling

How will you feel when this manifests? Include that emotion in your intention.

5. Keep It Simple

One clear intention is more powerful than ten vague ones. Focus your energy.

6. Write It Down

Writing makes it real. Keep your intentions visible.

Types of Intentions

Daily Intentions: How you want to show up today. "I am present and peaceful."

Monthly Intentions: Theme or focus for the month. "I embrace change with grace."

New Moon Intentions: What you're calling in during new lunar cycle.

Year Intentions: Overarching theme for the year. "This is my year of abundance."

Life Intentions: How you want to live your life. "I live with purpose and joy."

Intention Setting Rituals

Morning Intention

Upon waking, set intention for your day. How do you want to feel? How will you show up? Visualize it, feel it, declare it.

New Moon Ritual

Write intentions for new cycle. Light candle, meditate, speak intentions aloud, release to universe.

Vision Board

Create visual representation of your intentions. Images, words, symbols. Place where you'll see daily.

Meditation

Meditate on your intention. Visualize it as real. Feel the emotions. Embody the energy.

Activating Your Intentions

Setting intention is just the beginning. Activate it through:

Feeling: Feel as if it's already true

Action: Take aligned action

Belief: Believe it's possible

Letting Go: Release attachment to how/when

Trust: Trust the universe

Common Mistakes

Setting intentions then forgetting them. Not feeling the intention. Being too vague. Focusing on what you don't want. Not taking action. Giving up too soon.

Powerful Intention Examples

I am abundant and prosperous. I attract loving relationships. I am healthy and vibrant. I live my purpose with joy. I am peaceful and grounded. I trust the flow of life. I am worthy of all good things.

Final Thoughts

Your intentions are powerful. They direct your energy, focus your mind, and signal to the universe what you're ready to receive. When you set clear intentions and align your energy with them, you become a conscious creator of your reality. Set your intentions. Feel them. Believe them. Act on them. Watch them manifest.

An intention is not a wish — it is a declaration of alignment, a statement to your own field about the direction you are choosing to move, and the universe responds to that clarity with remarkable precision.
