Summoning Spirits of Swift Movement: The Fifth Pentacle's True Purpose

The Fifth Pentacle of the Sun is frequently misunderstood as a general travel talisman — a seal to wear when traveling for protection or good fortune on the road. This misunderstanding, while understandable given the pentacle's association with movement and transit, fundamentally misrepresents its nature and its purpose. The Fifth Pentacle is not a travel talisman; it is a ceremonial instrument for summoning specific spirits whose nature is bound to swift movement, instantaneous displacement, and the collapsing of space between points of will.

This distinction matters because it determines how the pentacle is used, what results can be expected from its use, and what level of preparation and knowledge is required to work with it effectively. A travel talisman can be worn passively; the Fifth Pentacle requires active engagement, clear intention, and the knowledge to work within the Solomonic framework of spirit evocation.

The Spirits of Swift Movement

The spirits associated with the Fifth Pentacle of the Sun are solar intelligences whose nature reflects a specific quality of solar power: the instantaneous quality of light, which traverses vast distances in no time at all. These spirits are the spiritual expression of that quality — intelligences whose nature is bound to the swift traversal of distance, the rapid movement of energy and intention across space, and the bridging of the boundaries between realms.

In the Solomonic framework, these spirits are not vague forces or abstract energies; they are specific intelligences with specific natures, specific capabilities, and specific ways of being engaged. The Fifth Pentacle provides the instrument through which they are summoned — the spiritual contract that establishes the practitioner's authority and the specific nature of the request being made.

Applications of the Fifth Pentacle

Astral projection: The Fifth Pentacle is particularly suited to work involving astral projection — the deliberate separation of the astral body from the physical body and its movement through non-physical space. The spirits of swift movement assist in the rapid traversal of astral space, the swift movement between astral locations, and the safe and rapid return to the physical body.

Distance working: The Fifth Pentacle supports magical operations that require the swift movement of energy, intention, or influence across physical distance — healing work directed at distant recipients, the rapid transmission of magical influence, and the bridging of physical distance through spiritual means.

Spirit communication: The spirits summoned through the Fifth Pentacle can serve as intermediaries — messengers and movers between realms who facilitate communication with other spiritual forces and the rapid transmission of messages across the boundaries between worlds.

Working with the Pentacle

Hold the pentacle and clearly state the nature of your request and the spirit you seek to engage. Be specific: the spirits of the Fifth Pentacle respond to precise requests, not vague intentions. State what you need, why you need it, and what you offer in return for the spirit's assistance. Then charge the pentacle under sunlight or during the hour of the Sun to activate its full potency before the working.
