TAURUS Retrograde: Shadow Work & Inner Review

BY NICOLE LAU

When planets retrograde through Taurus, the earth beneath your feet shifts. This is not a time for accumulation, but for examining your relationship with security, worth, and the material world. Retrograde periods invite you to unearth the shadow beliefs about value, scarcity, and what you're truly holding onto.

Understanding Taurus Retrograde Energy

Taurus governs material security, self-worth, pleasure, and our connection to the physical world. When retrograde energy moves through this sign, it creates a cosmic excavation that asks you to examine:

  • Scarcity consciousness – Fear-based hoarding or the belief that there's never enough
  • Worth wounds – Tying your value to what you own, earn, or produce
  • Stubborn attachment – Clinging to people, things, or beliefs past their expiration
  • Pleasure guilt – Denying yourself joy or comfort you deserve
  • Body shame – Rejecting your physical form or its needs

This retrograde asks: What am I holding onto out of fear? Where have I confused security with control over the material world?

The Shadow Work: Facing the Scarcity Wound

Taurus retrograde reveals the shadow of lack – the part of you that believes you're not enough, don't have enough, and never will be enough. It shows where you've tried to fill an inner void with outer things.

Shadow Prompts for Taurus Retrograde:

Scarcity & Security:
β€’ What am I hoarding because I don't trust the future?
β€’ Where do I confuse having more with being safe?
β€’ What scarcity belief did I inherit from my family?
β€’ What would I have to feel if I stopped accumulating?

Worth & Value:
β€’ Where do I measure my worth by my bank account or possessions?
β€’ What do I believe I must earn to deserve love or rest?
β€’ When did I decide my value was conditional?
β€’ What would change if I believed I was inherently worthy?

Stubbornness & Attachment:
β€’ What am I clinging to that's ready to be released?
β€’ Where has my stability become stagnation?
β€’ What relationship or situation am I staying in for security, not love?
β€’ What would I lose if I let go – and what would I gain?

Inner Review Ritual: The Abundance Excavation

This ritual helps you dig beneath the surface of your material attachments and unearth the true source of security.

You'll Need:

  • Green or brown candle
  • Bowl of soil or salt
  • Rose quartz or green aventurine crystal
  • Journal and pen
  • Something you've been holding onto (object, photo, symbol)

The Practice:

1. Ground Into Earth
Light your candle. Place your hands in the soil. Hold your crystal and take five deep breaths, feeling the Earth's abundance beneath the surface.

2. The Shadow Inventory
Hold the object you've been clinging to and ask:
β€’ What am I really holding onto here?
β€’ What fear does this represent?
β€’ What do I believe this gives me that I can't give myself?
β€’ What scarcity story is this feeding?

Write whatever arises without judgment.

3. The Excavation
For each attachment, dig deeper: What's beneath the fear of not having enough? Often it's a wound around not being enough. Write to that wound with compassion.

4. The Integration
Bury the object (or a symbol of it) in the soil, saying:
"I release the illusion that my worth comes from what I hold. I am abundant in my being, not my having. The Earth provides, and I am part of that provision. I am enough. I have enough. I am safe."

5. The Reclamation
Write one way you will practice internal abundance this retrograde – through gratitude, self-worth affirmations, or allowing yourself pleasure without guilt.

Retrograde Practices: Cultivating Inner Wealth

During Taurus retrograde, shift your focus from external to internal abundance:

  • Gratitude inventory – Daily list five material blessings you already have
  • Worth affirmations – Speak your inherent value independent of achievement
  • Pleasure without guilt – Allow yourself one sensory delight daily (taste, touch, scent)
  • Body appreciation – Thank your body for what it does, not how it looks
  • Release practice – Let go of one possession weekly; notice you're still whole

Integration Questions

As you move through this retrograde, reflect on:

  • What am I ready to stop measuring my worth by?
  • Where can I trust abundance instead of controlling it?
  • What attachment is keeping me stuck?
  • How can I feel secure from within, not from without?
  • What pleasure have I been denying myself?

Affirmation

I am abundant beyond what I hold. My worth is inherent, not earned. I release scarcity and trust the Earth's endless provision. I am safe to let go. I am safe to receive. I am enough, exactly as I am.

Taurus retrograde is not a time to acquire more, but to excavate the belief that you need more to be whole. True security is not found in what you grasp, but in the unshakeable knowing of your inherent worth.

May you dig deep and discover the abundance that was always within. For deepening this inner excavation, the Shadow Work Tarot offers a structured path through the beliefs that bind us, while the Cosmic Alignment Ritual Kit aligns your practice with the celestial flow. The Emotional Filter Ritual Kit helps release what no longer serves, and the Sacred Space Cleanse clears the energetic ground for this work. The 40 Manifestation Rituals workbook then transforms these releases into embodied abundance, turning scarcity stories into soul-aligned creations.

More Ways to Deepen Your Practice

If you've ever felt like your practice isn't going deep enough β€”
like your mind stays busy, your body never fully settles, or the space around you feels distracting β€”
it's often not about discipline.

It's about environment.

The right environment doesn't just support your practice β€” it becomes part of it.
When space, scent, sound, and intention align, the shift in awareness happens more naturally and more deeply.

Imagine this:
sacred symbols on the walls, soft fabric against your skin, a steady place to sit.
A match is struck. Smoke rises β€” bergamot, frankincense β€” something ancient and grounding.
Sound moves quietly in the background, and time begins to slow.

You don't force the state.
You arrive in it.

This is what a ritual feels like when every element is aligned.

If you want to make your practice feel like this, start simple:

You don't need everything.
Just one element can change the entire experience.

The tools that help create this space β€” and how to use them in your own practice:

Tapestries

Sacred symbols woven into fabric become silent guardians of the space β€” helping the mind cross the threshold from the ordinary into the sacred. Designed to anchor your ritual environment and hold energetic intention throughout your practice.

Yoga Mats

A dedicated surface signals to body and spirit alike: this is where the work begins. Everything else falls away. Built for comfort and stability, so your body can settle fully while your awareness expands.

Audio Meditations

Let sound do what the mind cannot do alone. In the stillness it creates, intuition finds its voice. Guided sessions crafted to deepen receptivity, clear mental noise, and prepare you for meaningful spiritual work.

Ritual Kits

When the tools are already gathered, the only thing left is intention. Light something. Begin. Thoughtfully assembled sets that bring together everything needed for a complete, intentional ceremony.

Personal Practice Journals

Every reading, every vision, every quiet knowing β€” written down before the ordinary world reclaims it. Structured to support reflection, pattern recognition, and the long-term deepening of your practice.

Apparel

What you wear into a ritual becomes part of it. Soft, intentional, yours. Designed for ease of movement and energetic comfort, from morning meditation to evening ceremony.

Aromatherapy Candles

A flame changes a room. Let the scent that rises with it mark the beginning of something set apart from the rest of the day. Formulated with sacred botanicals to cleanse energy, anchor intention, and deepen meditative states.

Books

Some knowledge can only be absorbed slowly, over many readings. Let the right book become a companion to your practice. Curated titles spanning mysticism, ritual, and esoteric wisdom β€” to take your understanding further.
