The High Priestess Tarot Meditation: Accessing Inner Wisdom

BY NICOLE LAU

The High Priestess sits in stillness between the pillars, guarding the threshold to the subconscious. This guided meditation uses her archetypal energy to help you access your inner wisdom, develop your intuition, and connect with the mysteries that live beneath the surface of consciousness. This is not about seeking answers outside yourselfβ€”this is about remembering that you already know.

About This Meditation

This meditation is designed to help you embody The High Priestess's energy: receptivity, intuition, inner knowing, and connection to the subconscious. Through visualization and energetic opening, you'll learn to access the wisdom that lives within you, beyond the reach of rational thought.

Duration: 25-30 minutes
Best practiced: During the New Moon, before sleep, or when you need to access intuitive guidance
You'll need: Quiet space, comfortable seated or lying position, optional lunar imagery or The High Priestess card

Preparation

Before beginning:

  • Find a quiet space where you won't be disturbed
  • Have The High Priestess card visible if you own a tarot deck
  • Optional: Light a white or silver candle to represent lunar energy
  • Set a clear intention: What wisdom are you seeking? What do you want to know?
  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to breathe deeply
  • Turn off all devices and create sacred silence

The High Priestess Meditation: Guided Journey

Grounding and Centering (5 minutes)

Sit or lie comfortably with your spine straight. Close your eyes and bring your awareness to your breath.

Inhale deeply through your nose, feeling your belly expand. Exhale slowly through your mouth, releasing all tension. Continue this rhythmβ€”deep inhale, slow exhaleβ€”until you feel centered and present.

Now imagine roots growing from the base of your spine, extending deep into the earth. These roots anchor you, ground you, connect you to the stable foundation of material reality.

At the same time, imagine a column of silver moonlight descending from above, entering through the crown of your head, filling your body with lunar energy. You are connected above and below, earth and moon, matter and mystery.

You are ready to enter The High Priestess's temple.

Approaching the Temple (5 minutes)

In your mind's eye, see yourself standing before a temple. It's night, and the full moon illuminates the entrance. Two pillars stand before youβ€”one black, one whiteβ€”representing the duality of existence: light and dark, conscious and unconscious, known and unknown.

Between the pillars hangs a veil decorated with pomegranates. This veil separates the outer world from the inner mysteries. You've been here before, though you may not remember. This is the temple of your own subconscious.

The High Priestess sits between the pillars, serene and still. She has been waiting for you. She knows why you've come. She holds the scroll of your inner wisdom in her lap.

Approach her slowly. Notice how you feel in her presence. There is no judgment here, only knowing. No rush, only patience. No noise, only silence.

She gestures for you to sit before her. You do.

The Question (3 minutes)

The High Priestess speaks, though her lips don't move. Her voice is the voice of your own inner knowing:

"What do you seek to know?"

In your mind, ask your question. Be specific. What wisdom do you need? What truth are you ready to hear? What mystery are you ready to explore?

Don't rush. Let the question form fully. The High Priestess waits. She has all the time in the world.

When your question is clear, speak it silently to her. She nods. She already knew what you would ask.

Passing Through the Veil (7 minutes)

The High Priestess stands and parts the veil behind her. Beyond it, you see not darkness, but a soft silver glowβ€”the light of the subconscious, the realm of dreams and symbols and knowing without words.

She invites you to pass through. You stand and step forward, moving through the veil. It feels like passing through waterβ€”cool, fluid, gentle.

On the other side, you find yourself in a vast inner landscape. This is your subconsciousβ€”the realm where your intuition lives, where your dreams are born, where your deepest knowing resides.

Look around. What do you see? A library? An ocean? A forest? A starry void? Everyone's inner landscape is different. Notice what yours looks like without judging it.

Now, call for the answer to your question. You don't need to speak aloudβ€”just hold the question in your awareness and wait.

The answer may come as:

  • An image or symbol
  • A feeling or sensation in your body
  • Words that appear in your mind
  • A knowing without explanation
  • A memory or dream

Don't force it. Don't analyze it. Just receive. The High Priestess's wisdom doesn't come through logicβ€”it comes through receptivity.

Stay in this space for as long as feels right. Let the wisdom reveal itself. Trust what emerges, even if it doesn't make sense yet.

The Gift (3 minutes)

Before you leave this inner realm, The High Priestess appears beside you. She offers you a giftβ€”a symbol of the wisdom you've received. It might be an object, a word, a color, or a feeling.

Accept this gift. Hold it in your hands or your heart. This is your talisman, your reminder of what you've learned here.

Thank The High Priestess. She bows to you, acknowledging that the wisdom you received was always yoursβ€”she was simply the guide who helped you access it.

Return and Integration (5 minutes)

Now, step back through the veil. You're standing again between the two pillars, in the temple entrance. The High Priestess has returned to her seat, serene and still.

She speaks one final time: "The wisdom you seek is always within you. Return here whenever you need to remember."

Bow to her in gratitude. Turn and walk away from the temple, back into the moonlit night.

Slowly bring your awareness back to your physical body. Feel your feet on the floor, your seat on the chair, your breath moving in and out.

The wisdom you accessed is still with you. The gift you received is still in your hands. The inner temple is always accessibleβ€”you need only create silence and step through the veil.

When you're ready, open your eyes. Notice how you feel. You should feel more centered, more connected to your intuition, more aware of your inner knowing.

Post-Meditation Practice

After completing the meditation, take these actions immediately:

  • Journal: Write down everything you experiencedβ€”images, feelings, words, symbols. Don't analyze yet, just record.
  • Draw the gift: If you received a visual symbol, sketch it. This anchors the wisdom in material form.
  • Notice your body: How do you feel physically? The body holds intuitive wisdom too.
  • Trust what emerged: Even if the answer doesn't make logical sense, trust it. Intuition often speaks in symbols.

Working with This Meditation

For daily practice: Use a shortened 10-minute version focusing just on passing through the veil and receiving one insight.

For New Moon: Practice this meditation during the New Moon to set intuitive intentions and access hidden wisdom.

For decision-making: When you need guidance about a specific choice, ask The High Priestess to show you what your intuition knows.

For intuitive development: Practice weekly to strengthen your connection to your inner knowing and subconscious wisdom.

Variations and Adaptations

Walking meditation: Practice this meditation while walking slowly in nature, imagining each step takes you deeper into the inner temple.

Before sleep: Do this meditation in bed before sleeping. Ask The High Priestess to send wisdom through your dreams.

Group meditation: Practice in a circle, each person accessing their own inner temple while the group energy amplifies everyone's intuition.

With lunar water: Drink water charged under the Full Moon before meditating to enhance receptivity.

Signs the Meditation is Working

You'll know this meditation is integrating when you notice:

  • Stronger intuitive hits in daily life
  • More vivid or meaningful dreams
  • Increased ability to sense energy or read people
  • Greater trust in your gut feelings
  • Easier access to the "quiet knowing" beneath mental noise
  • Synchronicities related to your question appearing in waking life
  • A sense of being guided by inner wisdom

Troubleshooting

"I can't visualize the temple."
That's okay. Some people don't see imagesβ€”they feel, sense, or just know. Trust whatever form your inner experience takes.

"I didn't receive an answer."
Sometimes the answer comes laterβ€”in a dream, a conversation, or a sudden knowing days later. Trust the timing.

"The answer doesn't make sense."
Intuitive wisdom often speaks in symbols or feelings that the rational mind can't immediately understand. Write it down and let it reveal its meaning over time.

"I fell asleep."
This is common and not a failure. Your subconscious may have needed rest more than active meditation. Try practicing earlier in the day.

Closing Wisdom

The High Priestess's temple isn't a place you visitβ€”it's a place you remember. It's always been within you, waiting for you to create enough silence to find it.

The wisdom you seek isn't hidden from youβ€”it's hidden within you. The veil isn't keeping you outβ€”it's protecting the sacred space of your own inner knowing until you're ready to enter.

This meditation doesn't give you intuition. It reminds you that you've always had it.

May your meditation be deep.
May your intuition be clear.
May your inner wisdom be accessible.
May you remember that The High Priestess is you.

The temple is always open. The veil is always ready to part. The wisdom is always waiting. You need only create silence and step through.

More Ways to Deepen Your Practice

If you've ever felt like your practice isn't going deep enough β€”
like your mind stays busy, your body never fully settles, or the space around you feels distracting β€”
it's often not about discipline.

It's about environment.

The right environment doesn't just support your practice β€” it becomes part of it.
When space, scent, sound, and intention align, the shift in awareness happens more naturally and more deeply.

Imagine this:
sacred symbols on the walls, soft fabric against your skin, a steady place to sit.
A match is struck. Smoke rises β€” bergamot, frankincense β€” something ancient and grounding.
Sound moves quietly in the background, and time begins to slow.

You don't force the state.
You arrive in it.

This is what a ritual feels like when every element is aligned.

If you want to make your practice feel like this, start simple:

You don't need everything.
Just one element can change the entire experience.

The tools that help create this space β€” and how to use them in your own practice:

Tapestries

Sacred symbols woven into fabric become silent guardians of the space β€” helping the mind cross the threshold from the ordinary into the sacred. Designed to anchor your ritual environment and hold energetic intention throughout your practice.

Yoga Mats

A dedicated surface signals to body and spirit alike: this is where the work begins. Everything else falls away. Built for comfort and stability, so your body can settle fully while your awareness expands.

Audio Meditations

Let sound do what the mind cannot do alone. In the stillness it creates, intuition finds its voice. Guided sessions crafted to deepen receptivity, clear mental noise, and prepare you for meaningful spiritual work.

Ritual Kits

When the tools are already gathered, the only thing left is intention. Light something. Begin. Thoughtfully assembled sets that bring together everything needed for a complete, intentional ceremony.

Personal Practice Journals

Every reading, every vision, every quiet knowing β€” written down before the ordinary world reclaims it. Structured to support reflection, pattern recognition, and the long-term deepening of your practice.

Apparel

What you wear into a ritual becomes part of it. Soft, intentional, yours. Designed for ease of movement and energetic comfort, from morning meditation to evening ceremony.

Aromatherapy Candles

A flame changes a room. Let the scent that rises with it mark the beginning of something set apart from the rest of the day. Formulated with sacred botanicals to cleanse energy, anchor intention, and deepen meditative states.

Books

Some knowledge can only be absorbed slowly, over many readings. Let the right book become a companion to your practice. Curated titles spanning mysticism, ritual, and esoteric wisdom β€” to take your understanding further.
