The Seventh Pentacle of Jupiter: Seal of Reversal and Elevation
Share
Among the forty-four pentacles of the Key of Solomon, the Seventh Pentacle of Jupiter occupies a unique position. It is not a seal of gradual increase or sustained prosperity. It is a seal of reversal — of radical, sudden elevation from the bottom to the top. Its recorded purpose is to combat poverty with great force, and its border carries one of the most striking verses in the entire grimoire tradition.
This is the seal for those who need Jupiter's power most urgently — not to increase what they have, but to fundamentally change where they are.
The Seal's Design
The Seventh Pentacle of Jupiter is a circular seal containing a complex arrangement of magical symbols, divine names, and planetary characters. At its center are the characters of Jupiter — the astrological and magical glyphs associated with the planet's intelligence and spirit. Surrounding these are Hebrew divine names and angelic names that invoke the specific powers of the Jovian current.
The border of the seal carries a verse from Psalm 113, verse 7: "He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes." This verse is not decorative. In the grimoire tradition, the scriptural verses on pentacle borders are understood as active magical components — divine words that encode the seal's purpose and invoke the authority of the divine name behind them.
The choice of this particular verse is significant. Psalm 113 is a hymn of praise to God's power to reverse the fortunes of the lowly — to take those who have been cast down and raise them to positions of honor and abundance. It is one of the Hallel psalms, sung at major Jewish festivals, and its imagery of radical reversal — from dunghill to throne — perfectly captures the Seventh Pentacle's magical intention.
The Seal's Purpose: Combating Poverty with Great Force
The Key of Solomon's description of the Seventh Pentacle is unusually direct: it combats poverty "with great force." This language — force, not gentle encouragement or gradual improvement — signals the seal's character. This is not a talisman for those who are doing reasonably well and want to do better. It is a talisman for those who are genuinely struggling — who need a decisive intervention in their material circumstances.
The second part of the seal's purpose — driving away the spirits that guard hidden treasures so that they may be discovered and obtained — addresses a specific magical concept: the idea that wealth and resources are sometimes blocked by spiritual guardians or obstacles that prevent access. The Seventh Pentacle is understood to clear these obstacles, opening pathways to resources that have been inaccessible.
In practical terms, this might manifest as: a job opportunity that suddenly becomes available, a financial resource that was previously unknown, a legal or bureaucratic obstacle that unexpectedly resolves, or a shift in circumstances that opens access to prosperity that had seemed out of reach.
The Seventh Pentacle and the Principle of Elevation
The imagery of the Seventh Pentacle — raising the poor from the dust, lifting the beggar from the dunghill, setting them among princes — encodes a specific magical principle: elevation. Not incremental improvement, but a categorical change in position. From one class of experience to another. From scarcity to abundance. From the bottom to the top.
This principle of elevation is one of Jupiter's most distinctive qualities. Where other planets produce gradual change, Jupiter at its most powerful produces sudden, dramatic shifts — the kind of change that looks, from the outside, like luck or divine favor. The Seventh Pentacle channels this quality of Jupiter in its most concentrated form.
Who This Seal Is For
The Key of Solomon is explicit: the Seventh Pentacle is for those at the bottom looking up. It is not a seal for the already prosperous seeking more. It is for those who are in genuine financial hardship — who are struggling with poverty, debt, blocked resources, or the kind of sustained scarcity that feels impossible to break out of.
It is also for those who feel that their financial situation is fundamentally unjust — that they deserve better than what they have, that something is blocking their access to the abundance that should be available to them. The seal's border verse speaks directly to this: the divine power that raises the poor from the dust is not responding to merit or achievement. It is responding to the simple fact of need — and the willingness to invoke divine assistance.
Integrating the Seventh Pentacle into Your Practice
The Seventh Pentacle of Jupiter works most effectively when worn consistently and charged with clear, specific intention. Before wearing, hold the seal and state your intention clearly — whether for relief from a specific financial crisis, the opening of opportunities that have been inaccessible, or a sustained reversal of economic fortune.
Many practitioners charge the pentacle during the hour or day of Jupiter (Thursday) to align with its full potency. The border verse can be spoken as part of the charging ritual, invoking the divine authority encoded in the seal.
The dual-sided engraving allows personalization: inscribe your name on the front to claim the seal's power, and a date or affirmation on the back to mark your magical commitment.
