The Sun as a Yes Card: How to Use It for Decisions

The Clearest Yes in the Deck
The Sun is the clearest yes card in the entire tarot deck. When a question is asked and The Sun appears, the answer is almost always yes — not the qualified yes of The Star, not the conditional yes of The Lovers, not the eventual yes of The World, but the immediate, unambiguous, full-light yes of The Sun. The Sun does not hedge. It does not qualify. It shines.
Understanding how to use The Sun as a yes card is one of the most practically useful skills in tarot reading. The Sun's yes is not just an answer to a question. It is a confirmation of alignment, a signal of genuine rightness, and an invitation to move forward with the full confidence that The Sun embodies.
What The Sun's Yes Actually Means
Yes, this is aligned: The Sun's most fundamental yes is the confirmation of alignment — the signal that the direction you are considering is genuinely aligned with who you are, what you need, and what is genuinely good for you. The Sun's yes is not just "this will work out." It is "this is right for you. This is genuinely yours. This is the direction aligned with your authentic self and your genuine purpose."
Yes, the timing is right: The Sun's yes also carries a timing confirmation — the signal that the moment is right, that the conditions are favorable, that the energy is available for the action you are considering. This distinguishes between the right action at the wrong time and the right action at the right time, which The Sun confirms.
Yes, move forward with confidence: The Sun's yes is an invitation to move forward with full confidence — not the cautious, hedged forward movement of someone who is not sure, but the open-armed, joyful forward movement of the child on the white horse. The Sun's yes says: go. Fully. Without holding back. The conditions are right, the direction is aligned, and the confidence you bring to this action will be part of what makes it succeed.
Yes, this will bring joy: The Sun's yes also carries a quality confirmation — the signal that the action or direction you are considering will bring genuine joy, not just success. When The Sun says yes, it is confirming that the joy will be real.
How to Use The Sun for Yes/No Readings
The single card pull: Ask your question clearly, pull one card, and if The Sun appears, the answer is yes. If The Sun reversed appears, the answer is yes but with some delay, blockage, or qualification that needs to be addressed first.
The Sun as confirmation in a spread: The Sun in the outcome position or the advice position confirms that the direction indicated by the rest of the spread is genuinely right. The Sun in the outcome position of any spread is one of the most positive signals available in tarot reading.
The Sun as a clarifier: When a reading is ambiguous or unclear, pull The Sun as a clarifier. If it appears, it confirms that the positive interpretation of the ambiguous reading is the correct one.
The body yes: The Sun's yes can also be felt in the body — the warm, expansive, open feeling in the chest and solar plexus that is the body's signal of genuine alignment. When The Sun appears in a reading, check the body: does the answer feel like The Sun's warmth and expansion, or does it feel contracted and anxious? The body's response is often the most reliable confirmation of whether the yes is genuine.
When The Sun's Yes Has Limits
The Sun's yes is almost always reliable, but it is not unconditional. The Sun reversed qualifies the yes — the direction is right, but something is currently blocking the full expression of the success it promises. The Sun in a spread dominated by challenging cards qualifies the yes — the outcome is positive, but the path involves navigating the challenges the other cards indicate. The Sun's yes is always about alignment and genuine rightness — not a guarantee that the path will be easy, only that it is genuinely yours.
