Transition Celebration Meditation: Change as Light

BY NICOLE LAU
Transition is the space between what was and what will be. It's the threshold, the doorway, the moment of transformation when the old is dying and the new is not yet born. Transition is uncomfortable because you're in betweenβno longer who you were, not yet who you're becoming. You're the caterpillar dissolving in the cocoon, the phoenix burning in the flames, the seed cracking open in the soil. Transition is death and birth happening simultaneously.
Most people resist transition. They cling to the old (even when it's not working) or rush to the new (before they're ready). They try to skip the in-between, to avoid the discomfort of not knowing. But the Light Path says: the transition is where the magic happens. The in-between is where transformation occurs. The threshold is sacred space.
Transition Celebration Meditation is the Light Path practice of change as light. It is the discipline of celebrating transition rather than resisting it, of trusting the process of transformation, of recognizing that change is not something to fearβit's light breaking through, new possibilities emerging, life evolving. This is about discovering that you don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to trust the transition.
The Transition Principle
Transition teaches us that transformation requires dissolution. The caterpillar doesn't become a butterfly by adding wingsβit dissolves completely into liquid in the cocoon, then reorganizes into a new form. The seed doesn't become a plant by staying intactβit cracks open, dies as a seed, and is reborn as a sprout. You don't transform by staying the sameβyou have to let the old die so the new can be born.
This is why transition is uncomfortable. You're dissolving. You're dying to who you were. And you don't yet know who you're becoming. There's a gap, a void, an in-between where you're neither/nor. This is the liminal space, the threshold, the sacred pause. And this is where you need to trust most. Because on the other side of dissolution is reorganization. On the other side of death is rebirth. On the other side of transition is transformation.
The Transition Celebration Meditation Practice
Preparation (3-5 minutes)
Timing: Practice this meditation when you're in transitionβchanging jobs, ending relationships, moving locations, shifting identities, or anytime you're in the in-between.
Environment: Create a space that honors both endings and beginnings. Maybe a candle (transformation through fire), maybe objects from your old life and space for the new. You're creating a threshold space.
Grounding: Stand if you can, one foot forward, one foot backβliterally embodying the threshold, one foot in the old, one in the new. Take five deep breaths. You are in transition. This is sacred.
Core Practice (12-15 minutes)
Phase 1: Honoring What Was (3-4 minutes)
Acknowledge what you're leaving behind. The old job, the old relationship, the old version of yourself. Don't skip this. Don't rush past it. Honor it. Thank it. It served you. It brought you here. Even if it ended badly, even if you're glad it's overβit was part of your journey. Say: "Thank you for what was. I honor this ending. I release with gratitude."
Phase 2: Embracing the Unknown (4-5 minutes)
Now, turn toward the unknown. You don't know what's coming. You don't know who you're becoming. And that's okay. That's perfect. The unknown is not emptyβit's full of potential. It's the void from which all creation emerges. Visualize yourself in the cocoon, in the soil, in the flames. You're dissolving. You're transforming. You don't have to know the outcome. You just have to trust the process. Say: "I trust the unknown. I embrace the transition. I am becoming."
Phase 3: Celebrating Change as Light (3-4 minutes)
From this place of trust, celebrate the transition. Not despite the discomfort, but because of it. Change is light breaking through. Transformation is evolution. You're not losing yourselfβyou're becoming more yourself. Visualize light breaking through the old structures, new possibilities emerging, your true self being revealed. Feel excitement, curiosity, joy about what's emerging. Say: "I celebrate this transition. Change is light. Transformation is my nature. I am evolving."
Phase 4: Threshold Blessing (2-3 minutes)
Finally, bless yourself in this threshold space. You are brave for being here, for not clinging to the old, for not rushing to the new, for trusting the in-between. Place both hands on your heart and say: "I bless this transition. I honor this threshold. I trust this transformation. I am exactly where I need to be. I am becoming who I'm meant to be."
Common Obstacles and Solutions
"I'm scared. I don't know what's coming."
Fear of the unknown is natural. But the unknown is not dangerousβit's potential. You don't have to know what's coming to trust that you'll handle it. You've handled everything so far. You'll handle what comes next too.
"I want to go back to how things were."
You can't. The old is gone. And trying to go back keeps you stuck in the threshold. The only way out is through. Forward into the unknown, not backward into what's finished.
"How long will this transition take?"
As long as it takes. Transitions have their own timing. You can't rush transformation. You can only trust it, support it, and be present with it.
Conclusion
Transition Celebration Meditation transforms change from threat into gift, from loss into evolution, from fear into light. You are always in transition. Life is always changing. The Light Path says: celebrate this. Trust this. You are becoming. This is the Light Path.
