Two of Wands Journal Prompts: 15 Questions for Strategic Vision

BY NICOLE LAU

Journaling with the Two of Wands

The Two of Wands is the strategic planner's cardβ€”it asks you to move from vague dreams to concrete vision, from scattered ideas to focused direction. These journal prompts help you clarify your path, make conscious decisions, and create actionable roadmaps for your expansion. This is not passive reflectionβ€”this is active strategic planning.

How to Use These Prompts

Strategic Journaling Practice

  1. Create Your Planning Space: Light two candles (representing your two options), have your journal, a world map or vision board nearby
  2. Ground in Vision: Take three deep breaths, visualize yourself standing on a high place overlooking vast possibilities
  3. Pull the Card: Hold the Two of Wands or visualize it clearlyβ€”see yourself holding the world in your hands
  4. Choose Your Prompt: Read through and select the one that makes you feel both excited and slightly uncomfortable (that's the growth edge)
  5. Write Strategically: Set a timer for 20-30 minutes. Write with both vision and practicalityβ€”dream big, but include concrete steps
  6. Create Action Items: After journaling, extract 3-5 concrete action steps from your writing
  7. Set Timelines: Assign deadlines to each action step
  8. Commit Publicly: Share your plan with one trusted person for accountability

Timing Your Practice

For maximum strategic clarity, journal with these prompts during:

  • New Moon: Setting intentions for new expansion cycles
  • First Quarter Moon: Decision-making and commitment point
  • Aries Season (March 21-April 19): Bold planning and strategic courage
  • New Year/Quarter Beginnings: Strategic planning for the period ahead
  • When you pull Two of Wands in a reading: The universe is asking you to plan strategically

The 15 Prompts

1. If I could build anything in the next 3 years, what would it be?

Purpose: Access your highest vision without practical constraints

Dig Deeper:

  • Describe it in vivid detailβ€”what does it look like, who does it serve, how does it feel?
  • What impact does it have on the world?
  • How does building this change who I become?
  • Now: What's the first milestone on the path to this vision?

Integration: Break your 3-year vision into yearly milestones, then quarterly goals, then this month's actions. Schedule the first action.

2. What two paths am I standing between right now?

Purpose: Clarify the actual decision you're facing

Dig Deeper:

  • Path A: Describe it completelyβ€”where does it lead in 1 year? 5 years?
  • Path B: Describe it completelyβ€”where does it lead in 1 year? 5 years?
  • What am I afraid will happen if I choose Path A?
  • What am I afraid will happen if I choose Path B?
  • Which path aligns with my highest vision of myself?
  • Which path would I regret NOT choosing?

Integration: Set a decision deadline (within 2 weeks). Gather final information, then choose. No more waffling.

3. Where am I playing it safe when I should be thinking globally?

Purpose: Identify where you're limiting your own expansion

Dig Deeper:

  • Am I thinking locally when I could think nationally?
  • Am I thinking nationally when I could think internationally?
  • What would change if I 10x'd my vision?
  • What resources would I need to expand to that level?
  • What's stopping me from thinking bigger? (Be brutally honest)

Integration: Identify ONE way to expand your reach this month. Join an international platform, reach out to someone in another country, research global markets.

4. What strategic plan have I been avoiding creating?

Purpose: Expose the planning work you're procrastinating on

Dig Deeper:

  • What project needs a concrete roadmap that I haven't created yet?
  • Why am I avoiding this planning work?
  • What am I afraid I'll discover when I actually map it out?
  • What would become possible if I had a clear strategic plan?

Integration: Block 3 hours this week for strategic planning. Create the roadmap. No more avoiding.

5. If I had unlimited resources, where would I expand first?

Purpose: Remove resource constraints to access true desire

Dig Deeper:

  • New geographic market? Which one and why?
  • New product/service line? What would I create?
  • New partnership? Who would I collaborate with?
  • New skill set? What would I master?
  • Now: What's ONE element of that expansion I can start with current resources?

Integration: You don't need unlimited resources to start. Identify the smallest viable version of your expansion and begin.

6. What decision have I been postponing that's blocking my growth?

Purpose: Identify the choice you're avoiding that's keeping you stuck

Dig Deeper:

  • What decision am I pretending I don't need to make?
  • How long have I been avoiding this choice?
  • What's the cost of continuing to avoid it?
  • What would become possible if I made this decision TODAY?
  • What's the worst that could realistically happen if I choose wrong? (Can I survive that?)

Integration: Make the decision within 48 hours. Set a timer, gather final information, then choose. Commit fully.

7. What does my empire look like 5 years from now?

Purpose: Think dynastically, not just quarterly

Dig Deeper:

  • Describe a day in my life 5 years from now in vivid detail
  • What have I built? Who works with me? Where am I located?
  • What's my revenue? My impact? My legacy?
  • How did I get from here to there? What were the key milestones?
  • What did I have to become to build this empire?

Integration: Work backward from your 5-year vision. What needs to happen in Year 4? Year 3? Year 2? Year 1? This quarter? This month?

8. Who do I need to become to execute my vision?

Purpose: Identify the identity shift required for your expansion

Dig Deeper:

  • What skills does this version of me have that I don't have yet?
  • How does this version of me think, speak, dress, move through the world?
  • What beliefs does this version of me hold?
  • What would this version of me do in my current situation?
  • What's one way I can embody this version of me TODAY?

Integration: Act as if you're already that person for one full day. Notice what changes.

9. What partnership or collaboration would 10x my expansion?

Purpose: Identify strategic alliances that accelerate growth

Dig Deeper:

  • Who has the skills, audience, or resources I lack?
  • Who shares my vision but serves a complementary market?
  • What would I bring to this partnership? (Be specific about your value)
  • How would I structure this collaboration for mutual benefit?
  • What's stopping me from reaching out to this person/organization?

Integration: Identify 3 potential strategic partners. Research them. Craft a compelling outreach message. Send it this week.

10. Where am I confusing planning with procrastination?

Purpose: Distinguish between strategic preparation and fear-based delay

Dig Deeper:

  • How long have I been "planning" this project?
  • What additional information am I waiting for before I launch?
  • Will that information actually change my decision, or am I stalling?
  • What am I afraid will happen if I launch before I'm "ready"?
  • What's the cost of waiting another 6 months?

Integration: Set a launch date. Make it public. No more planningβ€”execute.

11. What market or audience am I not considering that I should be?

Purpose: Expand your thinking about who you serve and where

Dig Deeper:

  • Am I limiting myself to one demographic when I could serve others?
  • Am I only thinking about my local market when I could go global?
  • What adjacent markets could benefit from my work?
  • Who else needs what I offer that I haven't considered?
  • What would it take to serve this new market?

Integration: Research one new market this week. Test your offer with a small pilot. Gather data.

12. What's my strategic advantage that I'm not fully leveraging?

Purpose: Identify your unique competitive edge

Dig Deeper:

  • What do I do better than anyone else in my field?
  • What unique combination of skills/experience do I have?
  • What do people consistently come to me for?
  • What feels effortless to me but valuable to others?
  • How can I build my expansion strategy around this advantage?

Integration: Double down on your strategic advantage. Make it the center of your expansion plan.

13. If I could only focus on ONE expansion path for the next year, which would it be?

Purpose: Force prioritization and focus

Dig Deeper:

  • List all possible expansion paths
  • Which one has the highest ROI (financial, impact, or fulfillment)?
  • Which one aligns most with my long-term vision?
  • Which one excites me most when I imagine working on it daily?
  • What would I need to say NO to in order to say YES to this?

Integration: Choose ONE. Commit fully for 12 months. Say no to everything else. Focus creates momentum.

14. What does success look like for this expansion, and how will I measure it?

Purpose: Define clear success metrics and milestones

Dig Deeper:

  • Financial metrics: What revenue/profit targets?
  • Impact metrics: How many people served? What transformation?
  • Growth metrics: Team size? Market share? Geographic reach?
  • Personal metrics: How do I want to feel? What lifestyle do I want?
  • What are my 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month milestones?

Integration: Create a dashboard to track these metrics. Review weekly. Adjust strategy based on data.

15. What's the first strategic action I can take in the next 24 hours?

Purpose: Transform vision into immediate action

Dig Deeper:

  • Not next week. Not when conditions are perfect. What can I do TODAY?
  • Make it small enough that resistance has no foothold
  • Examples: Send one email. Make one call. Research one market. Write one page of the plan. Register the domain. Book the flight.
  • What's stopping me from doing this right now?

Integration: Do it before you finish this journaling session. Right now. Close the journal and take action.

Advanced Journaling Techniques

The Strategic Roadmap

Create a visual timeline from now to your 3-year vision:

  1. Draw a horizontal line representing 3 years
  2. Mark major milestones at 3-month intervals
  3. For each milestone, write what needs to be true
  4. Work backward to identify this month's priorities
  5. Hang this roadmap where you'll see it daily

The Two Paths Dialogue

Have a written conversation between your two options:

  • Let Path A speak: "Choose me because..."
  • Let Path B speak: "Choose me because..."
  • Let your highest self respond to both
  • Notice which path your soul leans toward

The Empire Blueprint

Create a detailed business plan in your journal:

  1. Vision Statement: What you're building and why
  2. Market Analysis: Who you serve and where
  3. Competitive Advantage: What makes you unique
  4. Revenue Model: How you'll make money
  5. Growth Strategy: How you'll expand
  6. Timeline: When each phase happens
  7. Resources Needed: What you need to acquire

The Decision Matrix

For complex decisions, create a scoring system:

  1. List your decision criteria (alignment with vision, financial potential, personal fulfillment, etc.)
  2. Weight each criterion by importance (1-10)
  3. Score each option against each criterion
  4. Calculate weighted totals
  5. Let the data inform (not dictate) your choice

Integration Ritual: From Journal to Action

  1. Review Your Journaling: Read through your responses
  2. Extract Key Insights: Highlight the 3 most powerful revelations
  3. Create Action Steps: For each insight, write 1-3 concrete actions
  4. Prioritize: Which actions have the highest impact?
  5. Schedule: Put these actions in your calendar with specific dates/times
  6. Accountability: Tell someone your plan and ask them to check in
  7. Ritual Commitment: Light two candles, speak your plan aloud, extinguish one candle (the path you're not choosing), keep the other burning while you take your first action

When to Return to These Prompts

  • When feeling stuck: Lack of clarity or direction

More Ways to Deepen Your Practice

If you've ever felt like your practice isn't going deep enough β€”
like your mind stays busy, your body never fully settles, or the space around you feels distracting β€”
it's often not about discipline.

It's about environment.

The right environment doesn't just support your practice β€” it becomes part of it.
When space, scent, sound, and intention align, the shift in awareness happens more naturally and more deeply.

Imagine this:
sacred symbols on the walls, soft fabric against your skin, a steady place to sit.
A match is struck. Smoke rises β€” bergamot, frankincense β€” something ancient and grounding.
Sound moves quietly in the background, and time begins to slow.

You don't force the state.
You arrive in it.

This is what a ritual feels like when every element is aligned.

If you want to make your practice feel like this, start simple:

You don't need everything.
Just one element can change the entire experience.

The tools that help create this space β€” and how to use them in your own practice:

Tapestries

Sacred symbols woven into fabric become silent guardians of the space β€” helping the mind cross the threshold from the ordinary into the sacred. Designed to anchor your ritual environment and hold energetic intention throughout your practice.

Yoga Mats

A dedicated surface signals to body and spirit alike: this is where the work begins. Everything else falls away. Built for comfort and stability, so your body can settle fully while your awareness expands.

Audio Meditations

Let sound do what the mind cannot do alone. In the stillness it creates, intuition finds its voice. Guided sessions crafted to deepen receptivity, clear mental noise, and prepare you for meaningful spiritual work.

Ritual Kits

When the tools are already gathered, the only thing left is intention. Light something. Begin. Thoughtfully assembled sets that bring together everything needed for a complete, intentional ceremony.

Personal Practice Journals

Every reading, every vision, every quiet knowing β€” written down before the ordinary world reclaims it. Structured to support reflection, pattern recognition, and the long-term deepening of your practice.

Apparel

What you wear into a ritual becomes part of it. Soft, intentional, yours. Designed for ease of movement and energetic comfort, from morning meditation to evening ceremony.

Aromatherapy Candles

A flame changes a room. Let the scent that rises with it mark the beginning of something set apart from the rest of the day. Formulated with sacred botanicals to cleanse energy, anchor intention, and deepen meditative states.

Books

Some knowledge can only be absorbed slowly, over many readings. Let the right book become a companion to your practice. Curated titles spanning mysticism, ritual, and esoteric wisdom β€” to take your understanding further.
