When you need to clear the space before a working, light white.

White Herbs, Resins, and Botanicals

White Sage

The most widely used purification herb in contemporary magical practice — white sage clears the energy of a space, an object, or a person with remarkable effectiveness. Burn it as a smudge stick, moving through your space with intention, directing the smoke into corners and along walls. Speak your intention as you smudge: I clear this space of all energies that are not in alignment with the highest good. Only love and light remain.

Frankincense

The resin of the divine — frankincense purifies, elevates, and consecrates. It has been used in sacred ritual across cultures for thousands of years. Burn it as incense before any magical working to clear the space and create the conditions for genuine spiritual work.

White Rose

The flower of purity and new beginnings — white roses carry the energy of the love that is beyond passion, the love that is pure and clear and without agenda. Use white rose petals in purification baths, on altars for new beginning workings, and in sachets for protection and divine connection.

Mugwort

Used in white magic for its purifying and protective qualities — mugwort clears the energy field and creates a protective boundary around the practitioner. Burn it as incense before magical work or use it in protective sachets.

Sea Salt

The most fundamental purification tool in the magical tradition — salt absorbs and neutralizes negative energy. Use it to create protective circles, to purify objects and spaces, and to clear the energy field. A bath with sea salt is one of the most effective energetic purification practices available.

The holy wood — palo santo clears negative energy while inviting positive energy in. Unlike sage, which clears everything, palo santo is more selective — it clears what is not in alignment while preserving and amplifying what is good. Use it after sage smudging to invite positive energy into the cleared space.

Complete White Magic Rituals

Ritual 1: Full Space Purification

Best timing: New moon, after illness or conflict, when moving into a new space, or whenever the energy feels heavy
You will need: White candle, white sage or palo santo, sea salt, selenite wand, frankincense incense

Method: Begin by opening all windows and doors to allow stagnant energy to leave. Light the frankincense incense. Light the white candle at the center of your space.

Light the white sage. Moving clockwise through your space, direct the smoke into every corner, along every wall, into every closet and cabinet. Speak: I clear this space of all energies that are not in alignment with the highest good. All that is heavy, stagnant, or harmful is released. Only love, light, and clarity remain.

After the sage, move through the space with the selenite wand, drawing it through the air to seal the clearing with white light. Finally, place small bowls of sea salt in the corners of each room to absorb any remaining heavy energy. Leave for 24 hours, then dispose of the salt outside your home.

Ritual 2: White Light Protection

Best timing: Any time; particularly before entering challenging situations or environments
You will need: White candle, clear quartz or selenite, sea salt

Method: Light the white candle. Hold the clear quartz in both hands. Close your eyes.

Visualize white light descending from above — from the divine, from the cosmos, from the source of all light. Feel it entering through the crown of your head and filling your entire body — every cell, every organ, every dimension of your being — with pure white light.

Then feel the white light expanding outward from your body, forming a sphere of brilliant white light around you — extending about three feet in every direction. This is your white light shield: nothing that is not in alignment with your highest good can penetrate it. Speak: I am surrounded and protected by the white light of the divine. Only love and light may enter my field. I am safe. I am protected. I am held.

Carry this visualization with you throughout your day. Renew it whenever you feel it fading.

Ritual 3: New Moon New Beginning

Best timing: New moon, the first day of a new month, New Year, or any genuine new beginning
You will need: White candle, moonstone, white paper and pen, sea salt, a bowl of water

Method: Create a circle of sea salt around your altar. Place the white candle at the center. Light it.

On the white paper, write: what you are releasing — the patterns, the beliefs, the relationships, the versions of yourself that you are leaving behind. Write it completely and honestly. Then fold the paper and place it in the bowl of water, watching the ink dissolve. The past is released. It is done.

Take a fresh piece of white paper. Write: what you are beginning — not goals or plans, but the quality of the life you are stepping into. How does it feel? Who are you in this new beginning? Write it in the present tense, as if it is already true.

Hold the moonstone in both hands. Speak: I release what has been. I welcome what is beginning. I step into this new chapter with clarity, with courage, and with the full authority of someone who has chosen to begin again.

Keep the second paper. Read it at the full moon to see what has manifested.
