Does It Actually Matter?
For meditation quality: No.
For comfort and consistency: Yes.
You can meditate deeply on either. But a yoga mat can:

- Protect your joints

The Real Benefit of a Mat
It's not about the cushioning. It's about creating ritual:
- Rolling out your mat = "meditation time"
- Sacred design = visual intention
- Dedicated space = consistency
The mat becomes a trigger for your practice.
The Verdict
For comfort: Yoga Mat
For simplicity: Floor
For building habit: Yoga Mat
The best meditation surface is the one you'll actually use.
The mat doesn't make you meditate better. But it might make you meditate more often. And that's what matters.
