Leo & The Principle of Cause and Effect: Every Cause Has Its Effect Through Fixed Fire

BY NICOLE LAU

The Lion's Sovereignty: Where Will Becomes Law

The sixth Hermetic principle states: "Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause; everything happens according to Law; Chance is but a name for Law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the Law." Leo, ruled by the Sun, embodies this principle through the power of conscious, deliberate creation.

Leo doesn't believe in accidents. The lion knows that every outcome is the result of a cause, and that by controlling the cause, you control the effect. This is not arrogance. This is sovereign responsibility.

The Hermetic Secret of Deliberate Causation

Most people live as effects—reacting to circumstances, blaming external forces, believing themselves victims of chance. But Hermetic philosophy teaches that chance is an illusion. What appears random is simply causation operating on planes we don't yet perceive.

Leo operates from the plane of conscious causation. The lion doesn't wait for life to happen—the lion makes life happen. Every action is deliberate, every choice is intentional, every creation is willed into being. This is solar consciousness: the understanding that you are not an effect of the universe, you are a cause within it.

Where Aries initiates impulsively, Taurus manifests gradually, Gemini oscillates mentally, and Cancer flows cyclically, Leo commands—setting causes in motion with full awareness of the effects they will produce.

As Above, So Below: The Hierarchy of Causation

The Emerald Tablet reveals that causation operates on multiple planes simultaneously. Leo demonstrates this through the solar principle of radiation:

• Divine Causation (Above): The Sun as source, the creative will of THE ALL
• Individual Causation (Middle): The sovereign self as creator, the conscious will of the awakened being
• Material Causation (Below): Physical actions and their inevitable consequences

The lion's gift is understanding that you are a link in the chain of causation. You receive causes from above (inspiration, divine will, cosmic patterns) and you generate causes below (actions, creations, influences). You are simultaneously effect and cause—and the more conscious you become, the more you operate as cause rather than effect.

The Seven Hermetic Principles Through Leo's Lens

1. Mentalism: The Creative Mind

Leo proves that mind is the ultimate cause. Before the lion acts, the lion decides. Before the decision, there is vision. The mental plane is where all causation begins—everything else is effect.

2. Correspondence: Radiating Influence

As the Sun radiates light (above), so does the sovereign self radiate influence (below). Leo understands that your inner state—your thoughts, emotions, intentions—causes corresponding effects in your outer reality.

3. Vibration: Setting the Frequency

Leo operates at the vibration of sovereignty, confidence, creative power. This high-frequency state causes effects that match it—opportunities, recognition, success. The lion knows that your vibration is a cause, and your circumstances are the effect.

4. Polarity: Choosing Your Pole

Leo exercises sovereignty by consciously choosing which pole to operate from. Courage or fear? Generosity or scarcity? Creation or destruction? The lion knows that this choice is a cause that will produce corresponding effects.

5. Rhythm: Sustaining the Cause

Leo's fixed fire quality allows the lion to sustain causation over time. Unlike cardinal signs that initiate and move on, Leo holds the creative fire steady, ensuring that causes have time to produce their full effects.

6. Cause and Effect: The Primary Principle

Everything happens according to law. Leo is the master of this law, understanding that by becoming a conscious cause, you escape being an unconscious effect. The lion doesn't ask "Why is this happening to me?" The lion asks "What am I creating?"

7. Gender: The Masculine Principle

Leo embodies the active, generative, projective force—the masculine principle that initiates causation. Like the Sun that gives without depleting, the lion creates, radiates, generates, knowing that giving is itself a cause that produces the effect of receiving.

Practical Causation: The Leo Method

How do you harness the Principle of Cause and Effect through Leo energy? The process requires sovereignty and awareness:

1. Recognize your causative power - You are not a victim. You are a creator. Every thought, word, and action is a cause that will produce effects.
2. Examine your current effects - Look at your life circumstances honestly. These are effects. What causes produced them? Take responsibility without shame.
3. Identify desired effects - What do you want to create? Be specific. Clear effects require clear causes.
4. Determine necessary causes - Work backward from effect to cause. If you want X effect, what cause must you set in motion? What must you think, feel, believe, and do?
5. Become the cause deliberately - This is where most people fail. They know what to do but don't do it. Leo teaches: Will it. Then do it. Consistently.
6. Sustain the cause until effects manifest - Fixed fire burns steady. Don't change course every week. Hold your causative power steady and let the law work.
7. Observe, learn, adjust - When effects appear, study them. Did you get what you intended? If not, what cause did you actually set in motion versus what you thought you set in motion?

This is not "manifestation." This is applied causation—the conscious use of universal law to create deliberate outcomes.

The Shadow: When Causation Becomes Tyranny

Leo's shadow emerges when the Principle of Cause and Effect is misunderstood as the Principle of Control. The lion can become so identified with being the cause that it tries to control all effects, including other people's choices and natural processes beyond individual will.

The mature Leo learns to distinguish between:

• Sovereign causation and dominating control
• Creative power and power over others
• Taking responsibility and taking blame
• Confidence in the law and arrogance about outcomes

The wisdom is this: You are a cause, but you are not the only cause. You operate within a web of causation that includes other wills, natural laws, and divine timing. Sovereignty means owning your causative power while respecting the causative power of others and the greater Law.

Integration: Becoming the Conscious Creator

The ultimate Leo initiation is recognizing yourself as a sovereign creator—not the creator of all reality, but a conscious participant in the creative process, someone who understands causation deeply enough to work with it rather than against it or in ignorance of it.

When Leo energy is fully integrated with Hermetic wisdom, you become:

• A leader who inspires others to claim their own causative power
• A creator who takes full responsibility for their creations
• A sovereign who rules their inner kingdom with wisdom and love
• A sun who radiates light, warmth, and life-giving energy to all

Your Hermetic Practice: Leo Causation Ritual

Best performed: During Leo season (July 23 - August 22), on a Sunday (Sun's day), at noon

You'll need:

• Gold candle (for solar energy and sovereignty)
• Your journal for causation mapping
• A mirror (to face yourself as creator)
• Frankincense or cinnamon incense (for solar alignment)

The Practice:

1. Create your sacred space at solar noon, the hour of maximum solar power
2. Light your gold candle and incense
3. Sit before the mirror and look yourself in the eyes
4. Speak aloud: "I am a sovereign creator. I am a conscious cause. I take full responsibility for my creations."
5. In your journal, create two columns: EFFECTS (current life circumstances) and CAUSES (thoughts, beliefs, actions that produced them)
6. Be ruthlessly honest. No victim stories. No blame. Just causation mapping.
7. On a new page, write: DESIRED EFFECTS (what you want to create)
8. For each desired effect, identify the NECESSARY CAUSES (what you must think, believe, feel, and do to produce this effect)
9. Choose ONE desired effect to focus on for the next lunar cycle
10. Commit to becoming the cause of this effect through consistent, deliberate action
11. Speak your commitment aloud to your reflection: "I will [specific cause] to create [specific effect]. I am sovereign. I am creator. So it is."
12. Track your causation experiment daily, noting how causes produce effects in real-time

The Lion's Gift to Humanity

Leo teaches us the most empowering truth in the Hermetic tradition: You are not a victim of circumstance. You are a creator of it. Every effect in your life is the result of causes you set in motion—consciously or unconsciously.

There is no such thing as chance. There is no such thing as luck. There is only Law—the immutable principle that every cause produces its corresponding effect. The question is not whether you're creating—you always are. The question is: Are you creating consciously or unconsciously? Deliberately or accidentally? As sovereign or as subject?

The Principle of Cause and Effect, expressed through Leo, invites you to claim your throne as a conscious creator, to take full responsibility for your causative power, to stop being an effect and start being a cause.

Every cause has its effect. Every effect has its cause. And the lion knows exactly which causes to set in motion.
