01 · Build the Hexagram
Cast three coins six times. Each toss creates one line, starting at the bottom and building upward to the sixth line. Solid and broken lines form the primary hexagram.
Liu Yao (六爻) is a traditional Chinese method of interpreting a question through a six-line hexagram. In a full technical reading, the hexagram is considered alongside changing lines, the five phases, the six relations, the six spirits, the day and month influences, and the question being asked. This interactive coin-casting experience introduces the visual structure of a cast and offers a first layer of symbolic reflection.
Cast three coins six times. Each toss creates one line, starting at the bottom and building upward to the sixth line. Solid and broken lines form the primary hexagram.
Traditional three-coin casting distinguishes stable yin and yang lines from changing lines. A changing line can lead to a resulting hexagram, adding a sense of movement between conditions.
The lower trigram can be considered alongside the upper trigram: inner conditions and outer circumstances, immediate foundations and the wider environment. Neither should be read in isolation.
This interactive module provides a simplified symbolic interpretation. It does not calculate the full traditional Liu Yao chart, including six relations, useful spirit, hidden spirits, or day-and-month strength. It is a learning tool, not a substitute for a complete chart or factual decision-making.
Focus on your question. Cast three Qianlong-style coins six times, building the hexagram from the bottom line upward.
