Lupercalia Divination: Love Tarot Spreads and Partnership Readings

BY NICOLE LAU

Lupercalia is a powerful time for love divination, especially methods involving fate, wild attraction, and primal compatibility. The festival's tradition of love lotteries (surrendering choice to divine will) makes it ideal for receiving guidance about partnerships, understanding your wild nature in love, and discovering what kind of love matches your untamed self.

From love lottery tarot spreads to she-wolf oracle readings, from fertility forecasting to wild compatibility divination, Lupercalia offers unique methods for receiving guidance about love, passion, and partnership.

Tarot Spread 1: The Love Lottery Spread

Purpose: Discover what kind of partner fate has chosen for you

The spread (5 cards drawn randomly, like a lottery):

1. Shuffle your deck thoroughly
2. Without looking, draw 5 cards and lay them face down
3. Turn them over one at a time

Card meanings:

1. The Partner: The essence of who they are
2. What They Bring: What they offer you
3. What You Bring: What you offer them
4. The Challenge: What you'll work through together
5. The Gift: What this partnership creates

The key: Accept what the cards show, even if it surprises you. This is fate speaking.

Tarot Spread 2: The She-Wolf Spread

Purpose: Understand your wild nature in love

The spread (7 cards in wolf shape):

1. The Howl (top): What I'm calling in
2. The Eyes (left/right): What I see in myself / What I see in others
3. The Heart (center): My wild heart's true desire
4. The Claws (left/right): How I protect / How I hunt (pursue what I want)
5. The Pack (bottom): What kind of partnership I need

Tarot Spread 3: The Primal Compatibility Spread

Purpose: Understand compatibility at a primal level (for existing or potential partnership)

The spread (9 cards):

You (3 cards):

1. Your wild nature
2. Your primal needs
3. Your untamed desire

Them (3 cards):

4. Their wild nature
5. Their primal needs
6. Their untamed desire

Together (3 cards):

7. Where you run together (compatibility)
8. Where you clash (conflict)
9. The wild love you create

The Fertility Forecast Reading

Purpose: Forecast fertility (literal conception or creative projects)

The practice:

1. On February 15th, draw one card asking: "What wants to be born through me?"
2. This card shows what's ready to be conceived/created
3. Draw a second card: "What do I need to nurture this?"
4. Draw a third card: "When will it be born/manifest?"

Timing the third card:

• Wands = quickly (weeks to months)
• Cups = emotional timing (when you're ready)
• Swords = after clarity/decision
• Pentacles = slowly, steadily (months to years)

The Wild vs. Tame Reading

Purpose: Understand if a relationship/situation is wild (authentic) or tame (domesticated/inauthentic)

The spread (2 cards):

1. The Wild Truth: What's authentic, primal, real
2. The Tame Facade: What's domesticated, performed, false

Interpretation:

• If cards are similar = authentic alignment
• If cards are opposite = living a lie, need to get wild

Love Lottery Divination (Non-Tarot)

Purpose: Let fate choose your focus

The practice:

1. Write different aspects of love on slips of paper: passion, commitment, communication, sexuality, partnership, independence, etc.
2. Place in a jar
3. Draw one at random
4. This is what you should focus on in love this year
5. Trust it, even if it's not what you expected

The Februa Purification Reading

Purpose: Identify what needs to be purified in your love life

The spread (4 cards):

1. What blocks my wild love: The obstacle
2. What must be struck away: What to purify/release
3. The februa (purification tool): How to clear it
4. The fertile ground revealed: What's possible after clearing

Wolf Oracle Reading

Purpose: Receive guidance from wolf energy

The practice:

1. Meditate on a wolf (image, visualization, or actual wolf if you're lucky)
2. Ask: "What does the wolf want me to know about love/life/power?"
3. Draw one card
4. Read it through the lens of wolf wisdom: instinct, pack, hunt, protection, wildness

The Running Divination

Purpose: Receive insights through movement

The practice:

1. Before a run, ask a question about love/fertility/power
2. Run with the question in mind
3. Notice what arises: thoughts, feelings, images, knowing
4. The first clear insight is your answer
5. Trust what comes during wild movement

Omens to Watch For

During Lupercalia and the days after, notice:

• Wolves or dogs appearing: Pay attention to their behavior (message from Lupa)
• Red appearing repeatedly: Passion, blood, life force activated
• Roses or thorns: Love and protection, beauty and fierceness
• Running or movement urges: Your body knows something your mind doesn't
• Wild attraction: Primal pull toward someone/something (trust it)
• Dreams of wolves, running, or wild places: Messages from your wild self

The Deeper Divination Truth

Lupercalia divination works because it honors FATE over choice, INSTINCT over logic, WILDNESS over control. When you surrender to the lottery, to the random draw, to what arises during the run, you're trusting divine wisdom over your domesticated preferences.

The she-wolf doesn't overthink. She trusts her instincts. So should you.
