BY NICOLE LAU
Michaelmas occurs on September 29th, deep in Libra season (September 23 - October 22), creating powerful astrological alignment for justice, protection, balance, and spiritual warfare. Understanding these cosmic energies reveals why this timing is so potent for invoking angelic help and slaying personal dragons.
Libra Energy: The Scales of Justice
Michaelmas falls entirely within Libra season, amplifying the sign's core themes.

- Cutting through obstacles (the sword)

The Dragon as Shadow: Slaying the dragon represents killing the false self, the ego, the shadow—a Plutonian death leading to rebirth.
The Autumn Equinox Connection
Michaelmas occurs shortly after the autumn equinox (September 22-23).
Threshold Energy: The equinox is a liminal time between light and dark halves of the year. Michaelmas marks the definitive turn toward darkness.
The Battle Timing: As darkness grows, we need Michael's protection more. The dragon-slaying occurs at the threshold, ensuring light's victory even as we descend into winter.
Balance Point: The equinox's balance between day and night mirrors the cosmic balance between good and evil that Michael maintains.
The Harvest End: Saturn's Reaping
Michaelmas marks harvest's end, connecting to Saturn's themes of completion and consequences.
Saturnian Themes:
- Endings and completion
- Reaping what you've sown
- Judgment and accountability
- Preparation for winter (hardship)
- Wisdom through experience
Michael as Judge: Like Saturn, Michael weighs deeds and ensures just consequences.
