Pisces Somatic Healing: Releasing Trauma from the Body

BY NICOLE LAU

Your body remembers what your mind tries to forget. For Pisces, trauma doesn't just live in your thoughtsβ€”it lives in your feet, your lymphatic system, your immune system, your energetic boundaries. Every time you absorbed someone else's pain, every time you dissolved into others, every time you had to disappear to surviveβ€”your body stored it. And now, years later, that stored energy is creating foot problems, immune issues, chronic fatigue, and a body that doesn't know where you end and others begin.

This is somatic healingβ€”the practice of releasing trauma directly from the body. Because talking about it isn't enough. You have to build it, contain it, ground it from your muscles, your fascia, your nervous system. And for Pisces, that means learning to build boundaries in your body, and to teach your nervous system that you're allowed to have a self.

Where Pisces Holds Trauma in the Body

Pisces rules the feet, lymphatic system, immune system, and energetic boundaries. This is where your trauma lives:

1. The Feet

What's stored: Inability to ground, fear of being in the body, chronic escape.

Why it's there: Your feet won't fully touch the groundβ€”you're always floating, never landing.

Symptoms: Foot pain, weak feet, difficulty grounding, feeling unrooted.

2. The Lymphatic System

What's stored: Absorbed emotions, toxins from others, inability to filter what's yours.

Why it's there: Your lymphatic system is your body's filterβ€”when you absorb everything, it gets overwhelmed.

Symptoms: Swelling, lymphatic congestion, chronic fatigue, difficulty detoxing.

3. The Immune System

What's stored: Boundary violations, inability to distinguish self from other, chronic overwhelm.

Why it's there: Your immune system protects boundariesβ€”when you have none, it weakens.

Symptoms: Frequent illness, autoimmune issues, chronic fatigue, difficulty fighting off infections.

4. The Energetic Boundaries

What's stored: Enmeshment, absorption of others' energy, loss of self.

Why it's there: You have no energetic containerβ€”you leak out and absorb in.

Symptoms: Feeling drained after being with people, absorbing others' moods, difficulty knowing what's yours.

The Science: Why Somatic Healing Works for Pisces

Bessel van der Kolk's research in The Body Keeps the Score shows that trauma is stored in the body, not just the mind. For Pisces, this means:

  • Your body has no boundariesβ€”you absorb everything
  • Your feet won't ground because grounding means having a self
  • Your immune system is overwhelmed by what isn't yours
  • Talking about it won't contain itβ€”you have to build boundaries, ground, reclaim yourself

Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing teaches that healing requires building a container in the body. For Pisces, that's learning that you're allowed to exist.

Somatic Practice 1: Foot Grounding (Building a Self)

What it does: Grounds you through your feet and teaches you that you exist as a separate being.

How to do it:

  1. Stand barefoot. Feel your feet on the ground.
  2. Press each toe down individually, feeling the earth.
  3. Rock forward and back, side to side.
  4. Then stomp your feet 20 times, forcefully.
  5. Stand still. Feel the vibration, the solidity.
  6. Say out loud: "I exist. I'm here. I have a body. I'm separate."
  7. Take 10 deep breaths, feeling your feet with each exhale.

When to use it: Daily, to practice having a self, or when you feel dissolved.

Somatic Practice 2: Boundary Visualization (Building Energetic Edges)

What it does: Creates an energetic boundary around your body so you can witness without absorbing.

How to do it:

  1. Sit or stand. Close your eyes.
  2. Visualize a boundary around your bodyβ€”like a bubble, a shell, or a force field.
  3. See it clearly, feel it protecting you.
  4. Say: "This is my boundary. I can feel without absorbing. Their pain is theirs."
  5. Breathe into the boundary, strengthening it with each breath.
  6. Do this for 5-10 minutes.
  7. Practice this before interacting with people.

When to use it: Before being with people, when you feel porous, or daily to build boundaries.

Somatic Practice 3: Lymphatic Drainage (Releasing What's Not Yours)

What it does: Activates lymphatic drainage and releases absorbed emotions and toxins.

How to do it:

  1. Lie down. Place your hands on your neck, just below your ears.
  2. Gently stroke down your neck toward your collarbones (direction of lymph flow).
  3. Do this 10 times.
  4. Then stroke from your armpits down your sides.
  5. Then from your groin down your legs.
  6. As you stroke, say: "I release what's not mine. I return it with love."
  7. Do this for 10 minutes.

When to use it: When you feel heavy, when you've absorbed too much, or daily for detox.

Somatic Practice 4: Self-Holding (Containing the Self)

What it does: Teaches you to hold yourself, to contain your own energy instead of leaking out.

How to do it:

  1. Sit or lie down. Wrap your arms around yourself in a hug.
  2. Hold yourself firmly, creating a container.
  3. Rock gently side to side.
  4. Say: "I'm holding myself. I'm contained. I exist. I have edges."
  5. Do this for 5-10 minutes.
  6. Notice the containment, the selfhood, the boundaries.

When to use it: When you feel dissolved, when you've given too much, or daily for self-care.

Somatic Practice 5: Crying Release (Releasing Absorbed Pain)

What it does: Releases absorbed emotions through tearsβ€”letting go of what was never yours.

How to do it:

  1. Create a safe space where you can cry without interruption.
  2. Place your hand on your heart. Say: "I release what I absorbed. This isn't mine."
  3. Let the tears come. Don't stop them, don't analyze them.
  4. Cry for as long as you need.
  5. When done, wash your face with cool water.
  6. Say: "I return this pain to where it belongs. I reclaim my energy."

When to use it: When you feel heavy with others' pain, when you need to release, or regularly to cleanse.

Daily Somatic Routine for Pisces

  • Foot grounding (5 minutes)
  • Boundary visualization (5 minutes)

When Overwhelmed (as needed):

Advanced Practice: Somatic Experiencing Session

For deeper healing, work with a Somatic Experiencing practitioner who can help you:

  • Build boundaries in the body
  • Release absorbed emotions
  • Teach your nervous system that you exist
  • Develop a sense of self

This is especially important if you have chronic immune issues, boundary dissolution, or loss of self that won't resolve with self-practice.

What to Expect: The Healing Process

Week 1-2: You might feel more separate, which can be uncomfortable. This is normalβ€”you're learning to exist.

Week 3-4: You'll notice stronger feet, clearer boundaries, less absorption.

Month 2-3: Chronic dissolution starts to release. You can have a self without feeling selfish.

Month 6+: Your nervous system learns a new baseline. You can be empathic and boundaried.

The Gift of Somatic Healing: The Boundaried Empath

When Pisces releases trauma from the body, you don't lose your empathyβ€”you reclaim it. The dissolution that was stuck becomes healthy compassion with boundaries. The absorption becomes the ability to witness without carrying. The loss of self becomes the freedom to exist.

You become empathic and boundaried, compassionate and self-preserving, connected and separate. You can finally exist.

Your body has been holding this for you. Now it's time to let it go.

For those walking this path of reclaiming selfhood, I have found that pairing these somatic practices with tools that reinforce the boundary work deepens the transformation. The Sacred Space Cleanse helps clear the energetic residue that accumulates when we absorb too much, while the Emotional Filter Ritual Kit directly supports the lymphatic and boundary-building work described here. And for the ongoing journey of grounding and self-containment, the Cosmic Alignment Ritual Kit offers a structured way to sync with your own rhythm rather than dissolving into others'.

More Ways to Deepen Your Practice

If you've ever felt like your practice isn't going deep enough β€”
like your mind stays busy, your body never fully settles, or the space around you feels distracting β€”
it's often not about discipline.

It's about environment.

The right environment doesn't just support your practice β€” it becomes part of it.
When space, scent, sound, and intention align, the shift in awareness happens more naturally and more deeply.

Imagine this:
sacred symbols on the walls, soft fabric against your skin, a steady place to sit.
A match is struck. Smoke rises β€” bergamot, frankincense β€” something ancient and grounding.
Sound moves quietly in the background, and time begins to slow.

You don't force the state.
You arrive in it.

This is what a ritual feels like when every element is aligned.

If you want to make your practice feel like this, start simple:

You don't need everything.
Just one element can change the entire experience.

The tools that help create this space β€” and how to use them in your own practice:

Tapestries

Sacred symbols woven into fabric become silent guardians of the space β€” helping the mind cross the threshold from the ordinary into the sacred. Designed to anchor your ritual environment and hold energetic intention throughout your practice.

Yoga Mats

A dedicated surface signals to body and spirit alike: this is where the work begins. Everything else falls away. Built for comfort and stability, so your body can settle fully while your awareness expands.

Audio Meditations

Let sound do what the mind cannot do alone. In the stillness it creates, intuition finds its voice. Guided sessions crafted to deepen receptivity, clear mental noise, and prepare you for meaningful spiritual work.

Ritual Kits

When the tools are already gathered, the only thing left is intention. Light something. Begin. Thoughtfully assembled sets that bring together everything needed for a complete, intentional ceremony.

Personal Practice Journals

Every reading, every vision, every quiet knowing β€” written down before the ordinary world reclaims it. Structured to support reflection, pattern recognition, and the long-term deepening of your practice.

Apparel

What you wear into a ritual becomes part of it. Soft, intentional, yours. Designed for ease of movement and energetic comfort, from morning meditation to evening ceremony.

Aromatherapy Candles

A flame changes a room. Let the scent that rises with it mark the beginning of something set apart from the rest of the day. Formulated with sacred botanicals to cleanse energy, anchor intention, and deepen meditative states.

Books

Some knowledge can only be absorbed slowly, over many readings. Let the right book become a companion to your practice. Curated titles spanning mysticism, ritual, and esoteric wisdom β€” to take your understanding further.
