Seeking Guidance from the Stars
Qixi is a powerful night for love divination. The celestial alignment of Vega and Altair, the thinning veil between heaven and earth, and the energy of reunion create ideal conditions for receiving guidance about love, relationships, and matters of the heart.

Working with Specific Tarot Cards
The Lovers Card
If The Lovers appears in your Qixi reading: Divine partnership is available, choices in love are significant, union and harmony are possible, Zhinü and Niulang bless your love. Meditate on this card on Qixi night for deeper insight.
The Star Card
The Star is especially potent during Qixi: Hope and guidance from above, celestial blessings, wishes coming true, connection to Vega and Altair, faith in love's arrival. This card appearing is a powerful sign.
Two of Cups
Partnership, mutual love, emotional connection, the meeting of souls. If this appears, reunion or new love is near.
Star Oracle Readings
Vega and Altair Divination
Use the stars themselves for guidance.
Process: Go outside on Qixi night. Find Vega and Altair. Hold question in your heart. Gaze at Vega (left/west). Notice what thoughts, feelings, or images arise. This is feminine/receptive guidance. Gaze at Altair (right/east). Notice what arises. This is masculine/active guidance. Look at the space between them (Milky Way). What needs to be bridged? What's the obstacle? Close eyes and feel the answer in your heart.
Magpie Oracle
Magpies are messengers in Qixi lore.
Process: On Qixi, pay attention to birds (especially magpies if in your region). Seeing magpies: Love is coming, bridges are forming, help is available. Hearing magpie calls: Messages from the universe, pay attention to what you were thinking. Magpie behavior: Playful = joy in love, Paired = partnership, Flying = freedom in love, Building = creating relationship.
Traditional Chinese Divination
Needle Threading Divination
The traditional Qixi practice also serves as divination.
Process: Attempt to thread seven needles by moonlight. Success on first try: Love comes easily, Zhinü blesses you. Success after several tries: Love requires patience but will come. Success on seventh try: Perfect timing, trust the process. Unable to thread: Not the right time, focus on self-development first.
Spider Web Divination
Traditional method using spider webs.
Modern adaptation: Observe spider webs on Qixi morning. Intricate, beautiful web: Skillful in love, good match coming. Simple web: Simplicity in love is best. Broken web: Repair needed in current relationship. No web: Not yet time, patience required.
Preparing for Qixi Divination
Cleanse divination tools with smoke (sandalwood, rose, jasmine). Create altar with roses, pink candles, rose quartz. Face the stars or east (direction of Altair). Set intention: "Zhinü and Niulang, guide my heart. Show me the truth about love. I am open to receive."
Enhancing Divinatory Receptivity
Drink rose or jasmine tea before divination. Hold rose quartz or moonstone. Burn rose or jasmine incense. Gaze at stars to open psychic channels. Meditate on Zhinü and Niulang's story.
Interpreting Qixi Divination
Look for themes of: Reunion and connection, patience and timing, devotion and loyalty, obstacles and bridges, creative expression in love, balance of giving and receiving, celestial support and blessing.
Trust your first impression. The heart knows truth. If a message feels loving and expansive, it's likely accurate. If it feels fearful or contracting, it may be ego, not guidance.
After the Divination
Record reading in detail with date. Make offering to Zhinü and Niulang (flowers, fruit, tea). Take one action based on guidance within three days. Return to reading at next Qixi to see what manifested. Thank the stars for their wisdom.
Ethical Divination
Don't divine about others without permission. Use divination for guidance, not control. Don't become dependent on divination. Balance intuitive knowing with practical wisdom. Respect free will - yours and others'. Remember divination shows possibilities, not fixed fate.
