Retrograde Planets: Complete Guide to Planetary Retrogrades in Astrology

Retrograde planets are one of the most talked-about phenomena in astrology. When a planet is retrograde, it appears to move backward in the sky from our perspective on Earth. While this is an optical illusion caused by the planets' different orbital speeds, astrologically it carries profound meaning. Retrograde periods are times when the planet's energy turns inward, asking us to review, reflect, and revisit areas of life that planet governs.
The most famous retrograde is Mercury retrograde, known for communication mishaps and technology glitches. But every planet goes retrograde at some point, each bringing its own lessons and challenges. Understanding retrogrades helps you navigate these cosmic review periods with awareness rather than fear, using them as opportunities for growth and realignment.
This is your complete guide to retrograde planets—what they are, each planet's retrograde meaning, and how to work with retrograde energy.
What Is a Retrograde Planet?
