The Boundaries Spread: Protecting Your Light
Share
BY NICOLE LAU
In the Light Path tradition, genuine healthy boundaries are not walls. They are not the defensive fortifications of someone who is afraid of being hurt or the cold exclusions of someone who has given up on genuine connection. They are luminous circles of genuine self-love — the warm, clear, completely self-possessed recognition of what genuinely nourishes your light and what genuinely depletes it, expressed with the particular, joyful confidence of someone who knows that protecting their light is not selfishness but the most generous thing they can do for everyone in their sphere.
The Boundaries Spread is designed to help you identify where genuine boundaries are most needed, what they most specifically need to protect, and how to establish and honor them with the Light Path's own quality of warm, clear, completely self-possessed confidence.
The Spread Layout
Arrange six cards in a protective circle:
Card 1 — The Light to Protect (Center): What is most genuinely, most completely, most joyfully yours that most needs to be protected right now — the specific quality of genuine aliveness, genuine creative energy, genuine emotional wellbeing, or genuine inner peace that your boundaries are most specifically designed to preserve.
Card 2 — The Boundary Needed: Where a genuine boundary is most needed right now — the specific relationship, situation, or pattern that is most significantly depleting your light and most clearly calling for a clear, warm, completely self-possessed limit.
Card 3 — The Fear: What fear, what belief, or what pattern is currently preventing you from establishing the boundary that is most needed — the specific internal obstacle to genuine self-protection. Read with compassion: boundary fears are almost always rooted in genuine past experiences of genuine relational difficulty.
Card 4 — The Boundary's Gift: What becomes available — for you and for those in your sphere — when this boundary is genuinely, clearly, warmly established. In the Light Path tradition, genuine boundaries are gifts to everyone involved, not just to the person who establishes them.
Card 5 — The Language: How to communicate this boundary with the Light Path's own quality of warm, clear, completely self-possessed honesty — the specific quality of genuine communication that allows the boundary to be established with both genuine clarity and genuine compassion.
Card 6 — The Protection: What energetic, practical, or relational protection is most available to support the boundary you are establishing — the specific resource, practice, or quality of genuine support that will most powerfully help you maintain what you are creating.
How to Use This Spread
Before laying the cards, place one hand on your heart and one hand on your solar plexus. Take three deep breaths and feel into the particular area of your life where your energy is most significantly depleted, where your light is most significantly dimmed, where something is taking more than it is genuinely giving. Let this felt sense of genuine depletion be your entry point into the reading.
Shuffle while holding the question: show me where a genuine boundary is most needed and how to establish it with genuine warmth and genuine clarity.
When reading Card 3 (The Fear), bring genuine compassion rather than self-criticism. Boundary fears are not weaknesses — they are the natural, understandable responses of someone who has learned, through genuine experience, that establishing limits can be genuinely costly. The card is showing you what needs to be gently, patiently, completely healed in order for genuine self-protection to become genuinely available.

Light to Protect — The Star: What most needs to be protected is your genuine hope and genuine healing — the particular, luminous quality of renewed openness and genuine receptivity that is most available when your energy is genuinely, completely your own.
Boundary Needed — Ten of Wands: The boundary most needed is around the carrying of others' burdens — the specific pattern of taking on more than is genuinely yours to carry, of allowing others' needs to consistently override your own genuine capacity.
Fear — Three of Swords: What is preventing the boundary is the fear of genuine heartbreak — the particular, understandable fear that establishing a clear limit will cause genuine pain to someone you genuinely love and that the pain will be your fault.
Boundary's Gift — The Empress: When this boundary is genuinely established, what becomes available for everyone involved is genuine, abundant, completely nourishing care — the particular quality of warm, generous, completely present nurturing that is only possible when the nurturer's own resources are genuinely, completely replenished.
Language — Queen of Swords: Communicate this boundary with the Queen of Swords' own quality of warm, clear, completely honest directness — honest enough to be real, kind enough to be heard, clear enough to be genuinely respected.
